St. James Parish Government  is hiring a Nutrition Program Office Manager for the Department of Human Services/Elderly Services.

This position entails responsibility for the independent performance of duties which require the exercise of judgment in making decisions in accordance with policies and practices of the department, and the laws or regulations controlling its operations.  Individual must perform a variety of tasks in the preparation of cooking meals for the Nutritional Program.  This position is classified as non-essential during declared emergencies and natural disasters and non-exempt according to the Fair Labor Standards

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Review menu and assemble food supplies.  Set up and prepare equipment for use in food preparation.

  • Responsible for the operation and daily activities of the Nutrition Program
  • Ensure that standard recipes that are in compliance with the Governor’s Office of Elderly Affairs (GOEA) nutritional guidelines are followed.  Follow the policies and procedures of the GOEA’s Nutritional Manual.  Provide high quality, nutritional meals.
  • Follow all food safety regulations.
  • Order, inventory, and maintain all food supplies.
  • Budgeting the weekly expenses for supplies.
  • Schedule staff and cover for any shifts.
  • Train new employees.
  • Work with Nutritionist to develop monthly menus.
  • Assist with cleaning all equipment, dishes, pots, pans, and silverware used in the preparation of meals.
  • Assist with restocking of pantry, freezer, and refrigerator with groceries as received.
  • Assist in care and maintenance of department facilities, equipment and supplies as directed.
  • Create and maintain reports and invoices.
  • Attend staff meetings, training, and conferences as required.
  • Perform special and related duties or assignments as requested.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must have above average computer skills.  Must be able to read menus and measurements. Must be able to create and develop meals and perform routine tasks in the kitchen.

EDUCATION and-or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
