JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

The Part-time Library Page will work under the direction of the Library Director, with specific responsibility to the Children’s Librarian and/or Circulation Clerks.  The Library Page will help in assisting library patrons at either the Adult or Children’s Room circulation desk.

Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Check-in and check-out all library materials which include books, magazines, DVDs, CDs, etc.
  •  Issue library cards to new patrons, renew library cards, and keep the patron file up to date in the ILS.
  • Re-shelve all library materials and keep the collection in proper order.
  • Assist patrons in locating materials and in answering reference questions.
  • Answer phone calls and assist patrons over the phone.
  • All other duties as required.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a typical library environment, which can be very hectic at times.  Errors could result in delay of patron satisfaction and confusion of library materials record keeping.

Physical Demands

Constant light to moderate physical effort required in performing duties.  Constantly required to carry and manage books of all sizes; in small piles and singly, place books on shelves of varying heights (frequently bending, kneeling, squatting, or reaching to do so).  Typing required.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

15 hours/week – Nights and Saturday hours required.

Supervisory Responsibility

None.

Required Education and Experience

  • Equivalent to high school education
  • Will train
