Mortgage Loan Originator


Position Summary

Originates both conforming and non-conforming residential mortgage loans. Participates in related business development activities, generating a network of referral sources.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

1.      Provides service to customers and prospective customers seeking residential mortgage loans, ascertaining their needs and programs qualified for.

2.      Processes and expedites the completion of loan package for underwriting submission.

3.      Maintains communication between all relative parties to the transaction.

4.      Remains informed of new trends and developments in the local real estate market, as well as the changing rules and regulations to both private and government insured mortgages.

5.      Calls on potential or existing customers to develop new business and increase or retain existing business relationships.

6.      Reviews documentation (i.e. credit report, appraisal, legal commitment, insurance, taxes, etc.) and ensures all information is correct.

7.      Sells and refers bank products and services to customers and prospects.

8.      Reviews title requirements and exceptions for accuracy and conformance.

9.      Submits loan package to Investor/mortgage operations and coordinates closing information with the lender.

10.  Assists all bank lenders and processors with questions regarding mortgage loan programs and products.

11.  Works closely with the Manager to maintain policy and procedures, as well as staying up to date on Compliance for the Mortgage Department.

12.  Adheres to the BSA Policy and all other Bank Policies.

13.  Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills)

·         Minimum 3 years of mortgage loan experience.

·         Knowledge of mortgage process, underwriting, and closing procedure for both conventional and government loans.

·         Ability to multitask in an ever-changing environment.

·         Good organizational skills.

·         Proficient in Microsoft office suite.

·         Ability to learn new software systems quickly.

·         HS Diploma required.

·         College Degree preferred.

·         Knowledge of Calyx a plus.
