Job Title:                    Engineering Services Manager

Reporting to:            Director of R&D

Position Summary

The Engineering Services Manager will report to the Director of R&D and manages the support organization for product development and research development. The Engineering Services Manager will also manage all aspects of Engineering Services group, to include but not limited to, coordination of prototype production activities, engineering test of electromechanical assemblies, and manufacturing development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads department toward common goals and values in line with the vision of the company
  • Supervise team of assembly technicians and create SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) efforts for NPI (New Product Introduction)
  • Seeks, develops, and promotes a continuous improvement philosophy
  • Coordinate and build high quality engineering and R&D prototypes to prove concept, feasibility and design
  • Develop and add capabilities and processes/workflows to create a rapid prototyping environment, with ever decreasing lead times
  • Consolidate various existing labs into a new world class Engineering Services Centre
  • Track, manage, and schedule priorities within a multi-function lab environment
  • Report to leadership the utilization, capacity, and KPIs of department
  • Contribute to product roadmap planning with needed support services
  • Manage Machine Shop, internal test facilities and test resources
  • Develop capabilities of additive manufacturing and develop SMT (Surface Mount Technology)
  • Manage capacity of products test lab and develop capabilities of new test requirements
  • Participate in regulatory testing and approvals with CSA and UL

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • Bachelor of Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or Engineering Physics
  • Experience in product design or manufacturing engineering
  • 10+ Years of working in manufacturing industry, medium to high volume product manufacturing
  • Experience with additive manufacturing is required
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams is required
  • Experience working in Machine Shop and Test Lab
  • Familiarization with inventory management
  • Knowledge of materials (plastics, metals, adhesives, etc.) and manufacturing processes (machining, bending, soldering, SMT (Surface Mount Technology), etc.
  • Knowledge of circuit boards, configuration management, Design for Manufacturing, Design of Experiment, Lean engineering, and Integrated Product development principles
  • Familiarization with optics fabrication and assembly would be an asset
