Registered Nurse Labor and Delivery PRN

IMC is currently hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for our Labor and Delivery unit. Under the general supervision of the Unit Director and with the authority of the Chief Nursing Officer, the RN will apply nursing process (assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation) in caring for patients, effectively interact with patient, significant others, and other heath team members. A successful candidate must demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psycho/social, education, safety and related criteria for the newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric population.

EDUCATION
- Graduate of an accredited school preparing Registered Nurses
- BSN preferred
EXPERIENCE
- At least one year of nursing experience in maternal child, emergency or critical care is preferred.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- Current Louisiana Licensure as a RN
- BLS (CPR) upon hire
- NRP within 6 months of employment
- ACLS certification within 1 year post hire for those providing post-operative care
- PALS certification preferred within 1 year post hire
- Fetal Heart Monitoring Education
Completion of AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring Education Program by 6 months of hire for an RN with previous fetal heart monitoring experience and by one (1) year of hire of an RN with no fetal heart monitoring experience into a labor & delivery role.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES (included by not limited too)
- Performs a complete nursing assessment with a special focus on the adaptation to mother-baby dyad and transition to parenthood to establish and prioritize nursing diagnoses to create an individualized, evidence-based plan of care.
- Assess human responses and adaptation to actual or potential health problems of the maternal, newborn, pediatric and gynecologic patient, family, and/or significant other.
- Provides patient-centered care to address physical, spiritual, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, and educational needs of the mothers, newborns, and pediatric patients and designated family members in accordance with the plan of care, hospital policy, state and national regulations and recommendations, and guidelines of the professional organizations.
- Recognizes current and emerging high-risk obstetrical conditions and emergencies in order to respond timely and appropriately to provide the highest quality care for the mothers and newborns.
- Administers high-risk medications in accordance with established protocols, policies and procedures to obstetrical patients to promote optimal maternal newborn outcomes.
- Supports the mothers and newborns with breastfeeding by providing education and support.
- Provides appropriate referrals and individualized information regarding post-discharge community resources
