Yard Jockey

JOB SUMMARY

The primary responsibility of the CDL Driver A / Yard Jockey / Warehouse Person is for the safe and on time delivery of freight from company owned locations to customer locations within the northeast market. Secondarily, this person works in the warehouse and as a yard jockey as needed to support overall business operations to ensure the continuous flow of product. 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES:

·         Ensures that all equipment assigned to this person is in good operating condition for the various roles he or she may be asked to perform over the course of a day.

·         When making customer deliveries maintains accurate log books that comply with all federal, state and local laws.

·         Operates all equipment in a safe and courteous manner.

·         Delivers customer loads in a timely and safe manner, and if the loads will be late for their appointment for any reason notifies their supervisor and warehouse manager.

·         Communicates all issues affecting performance in a timely manner.

·         Works with the warehouse team to ensure timely loading and dispatch of assigned customer loads.

·         Completes all relevant paperwork in a timely manner and ensures the paperwork is handed off to the appropriate manager at the end of each shift.  

·         Ensures his or her CDL A license is current and in good standing as a condition of employment.  

·         When making a customer delivery and interacting with the customers staff conducts themselves in a professional and courteous manner. 

·         Performs all assigned duties in the warehouse in a safe and efficient manner.

·         Ensures a high degree of pick accuracy for all mixed pallet customer orders.

·         Uses all tools required of the role, e.g. hand held computers in an effective and efficient manner.

·         Operates the equipment provided to the yard jockies in a safe and efficient manner.
