Opening Doors began in 1993 as a small refugee resettlement agency, and today serves 2,000 clients per year across our 5 program areas: Refugee Programs, Human Trafficking Programs, Immigration Legal Services, Health Programs and Economic Prosperity Programs.

Ideal candidate: The ideal candidate has extensive knowledge and practice of trauma-informed, client-centered care.   

They will have the ability to work effectively in multi-cultural work environments, showing respect and sensitivity for cultural differences, and will be passionate about Opening Doors’ mission.

Responsibilities: The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include the following:

·         Provide culturally and linguistically responsive client screenings and counseling including domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse and neglect. Provide general mental health therapy to children, youth, adults and/or families.

·         Provide assessments and appropriate documentation to institutions (i.e., summary letters of completion for CPS, law enforcement or legal clients; or comprehensive mental health Immigration Evaluations).

·         Foster problem-solving, conflict resolution and non-violent interactive skills among families and in other clients.

·         Document client interaction and service provision in compliance with Program requirements.

·         Keep informed about domestic violence and child abuse and neglect, and available services to refugee, immigrant and human trafficking survivors, using current information to better identify and serve those clients.

·         Provide trauma-informed care to clients.

·         Provide culturally responsive training, guidance and support to Opening Doors staff on domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse and neglect that is trauma informed.


Required qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.

·         Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling or a related field.

·         Experience using evidence-based models of therapy.

·         Demonstrated skills and abilities in providing behavioral healthcare to children, adolescents and families.

·         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to establish and maintain positive relationships with clients.

Preferred qualifications: The requirements listed below are not required but are desired.

·         ACSW/LCSW License

·         Willingness to work flexible evening and/or weekend hours; this schedule serves the purpose of meeting the needs of survivors of domestic violence and their families.

·         2 years of direct clinical service with survivors of domestic violence.

Physical requirements and work environment: The following demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the Trauma and Domestic Violence Therapist position. While performing this job, the employee is required to sit often and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, lift approximately 25 pounds on occasion, and to stoop, kneel, or squat, and drive on occasion. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
