Development Assistant

East Bay Community Law Center Berkeley, CA $50000.00 to $60000.00 per year

The Development Assistant provides support with the fundraising and communications activities of the organization. The position requires an extremely organized individual with attention to detail, excellent judgment and discretion, strong writing skills, a flexible and proactive attitude, and a strong commitment to EBCLC’s racial justice mission. 

The Development Assistant’s responsibilities will primarily focus on helping to coordinate activities for our individual giving program. Currently, EBCLC raises $600k in individual giving annually; we hope to increase this revenue stream each year. The Development Assistant will manage our donor Customer Relationship Management program (Donor Perfect) and ensure timely recording and acknowledgment of gifts. S/he or they will also support the management of our social media platforms, including our website. Additionally, the Development Assistant will also provide ongoing administrative support to our Contracts Officer for all our government contracts. The position reports to the Director of Development and Communications.


Primary Responsibilities


·     Work with the Director of Development and Communications (DDC) and the Individual Giving Managers to execute EBCLC’s Annual Giving program

·     Support administrative functions for the build-out of EBCLC’s first Alumni Engagement Program

·     Be the administrative lead for our Clinical Education graduate celebration website, which we work on each Spring

·     Ensures that all donors receive appropriate, consistent communications and acknowledgment for gifts

·     Process contributions, and gift acknowledgments, and generate regular donor reports for the Individual Giving Manager, the DDC, and the Executive Director

·     Support the Individual Giving Managers in managing the cultivation and solicitation of charitable contributions from individual donors, including preparing the Executive Director and DDC prepare for meetings with current and potential major donors

·     Ensure donor and prospective data is properly recorded in the database (Donor Perfect) and that all donor information is maintained with respect to confidentiality

·     Manage individual donor activities, including regular scheduling of snail mail, email, and social media communications to ongoing and potential individual donors

·     In partnership with the Individual Giving Managers and the DDC, participate in the creation of special events for the purpose of donor recognition, raising funds, and raising public consciousness of the work of the organization, including the alums of the EBCLC legal education program.

·     Stay informed and knowledgeable about programmatic activities

·     Support the production of public relations materials, including annual reports and quarterly newsletters

    Support the Contract Officer with ongoing tasks related to our government contracts, including monthly and quarterly billing activities

    Provided administrative support to Development Team members as needed.

      Extremely detail-oriented with time-management, priority-setting, and organizational skills

      Excellent written communications skills

      Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, and to work effectively with a diverse range of people, including Board members, funders, donors, attorneys, and community clients

      Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office, including extensive use of Word and Excel

      Professional demeanor and customer services skills

      Friendly, independent self-starter, and outstanding team player

      Flexible and able to work in a fast-changing environment

  Salary and Benefits

 Starting salary for this non-exempt position $50,000 - $60,000, as dictated by EBCLC’s salary scale.

Workplace Expectations


Due to COVID19, EBCLC employees are primarily working remotely. Staff may work in the office if they wish to do so, subject to certain capacity limits and other safety protocols. EBCLC will provide the necessary equipment to fulfill the job responsibilities of working from home.
