Environmental Engineer or Wastewater Engineer
Biohabitats, a leading conservation planning, ecological restoration, regenerative design, and construction firm based in Baltimore, MD, is seeking a Environmental/Wastewater Engineer to join our mission-driven team. With eight Bioregional offices nationwide, Biohabitats works throughout the country and internationally with public, private, and non-profit organizations to restore the earth and inspire ecological stewardship.
The Environmental/Wastewater Engineer, located in either our Santa Fe, NM or Denver, CO (or other location) offices, will be responsible for coordination, design, research, permitting, and construction administration of projects involving integrated water strategies, and specifically wastewater treatment and reuse. Specific responsibilities include providing engineering or design analysis, preparing design and construction documents (plans, specifications, and cost estimates), assisting with regulatory approval, assisting with construction administration services, and cultivating client relationships. The ideal candidate is deeply passionate about water, highly organized, is flexible and can work on a variety of project tasks, possesses strong written and verbal communication skills, possesses mechanical aptitude, and has experience with natural treatment technologies such as constructed wetlands.
Role & Responsibilities
» Process engineering and detailed design of integrated water systems including wastewater, water reuse, and water harvesting.
» Sizing and specifying pumps, meters, piping systems, instrumentation, controls, etc.
» Design coordination with CAD or production staff
» Construction administration and construction observation activities
» Cost estimating
Required Skills
» Experience with project management
» Experience with completing design and construction documents, including plans and specifications for wastewater treatment and/or water reuse projects
» Experience with permitting wastewater treatment and/or water reuse projects
» Experience with AutoCAD
» Technical writing competency
Helpful Skills
» Experience in ecological restoration projects
» Experience with natural treatment technologies such as constructed wetlands
» Experience with on-site wastewater systems
Education
B.A. or M.S. degree in Environmental, Civil, Mechanical, Agricultural, Water Resource or related engineering
Experience
» 5-10 years (This is not an entry level position, and successful applicants will have a minimum of 5 years of practical design experience following undergraduate or graduate studies).
» Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with competency in wastewater treatment or the ability to become licensed within six (6) months of hire.
Salary
$95,000-$125,000 depending upon experience
Location
Santa Fe, NM or Denver, CO preferred; but we are flexible outside of these areas
