Victims' Rights Law Clerk

Legal Services of North Florida is seeking to hire a Victims' Rights Law Clerk to provide support for its attorney and paralegal staff while working directly on civil legal matters on behalf of victims of crimes. Victims' Rights Law Clerk will receive $15/hour and is expected to work 30 - 35 hours a week for 12- 16 weeks during the summer semester. The predominate areas of law will be family law and domestic violence with additional legal matters involving victimization. Specific days and schedule can be discussed.  Seeking a total of eight Victims' Rights Law Clerks to be assigned to an attorneys in one of our five law office in either Tallahassee, Quincy, Panama City, Fort Walton Beach and Pensacola.

Responsibilities and duties include conducting legal research and writing; assisting the supervising attorney with client intake and other related interviews; working in a hands-on capacity directly with clients; drafting motion and pleadings; attending court with attorney whether in person or virtual; reviewing client needs and legal concerns to determine eligibility for various assistance programs or to identify a possible legal remedy.  Our preference is for an office-based position, which will allow the law clerk to gain the most from the experience, but we are open to discussing the arrangement for a remote position.

Interested candidates should be a law student student or recent law school graduate. Ability to work independently and in team environments, to ask questions and grow in legal understandings and client communications, to analyze complex issues and look for legal remedies positively impact the client or the overall community are important.
