Project Manager (IT)

The IT Project Manager will work with the Senior Director of Technology to lead the Museum’s Digitization work team in support of The National World War II Museum’s Digitization plan. This position will be responsible for leading the Museum’s interactive initiatives, implementation and extension of the end-user interface platform for the Museum’s digital collections, development of in-Museum physical computing interactives and ensuring coordinated and efficient access to back-end data to support these initiatives. This position will also coordinate with various departments to develop and mine data to enhance the visitor experience.


  • Leads the Museum’s cross-functional Digitization work team to research, and implement procedures, best practices and technologies into the digitization workflow and the Museum’s technology infrastructure.
  • Works with the Visitor Services and Retail leveraging data to create better visitor experiences for on-site and off-site visitors.
  • Works with Capital Expansion to develop engaging interactive visitor experiences throughout the Museum campus.
  • Works with the Marketing & Communications Department to bring interactive concepts to life using appropriate technologies including standards-based HTML/CSS, JS, jQuery, LAMP, Flash, ActionScript, Drupal, KE eMU/iMU, Convio, cloud-based storage solutions, and Mobile application development platforms including Android and iOS.
  • Works with the Marketing & Communications Department to implement tracking code for analytical reporting across a wide array of platforms.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Technology.


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Fine Arts, Design, Photography, Math, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Web technologies including HTML, PHP, XML, ASP, Flash, JavaScript, LAMP.
  • Heavy experience with Drupal including customization and theming is required.
  • Experience with Collection Management Software such as KE eMU preferred.
  • Experience with Agile-Lean or Scrum development methodologies.
  • Content management and Customer Relationship management systems, such as Convio.
  • In-depth knowledge of web content best practices, usability, and the social media realm with emphasis on the use of Facebook, Twitter, and blogs as effective outreach tools for an organization.
  • Working with application service providers and hosted solutions.
  • Knowledge of web standards and best practices.
  • Relevant technology for websites (i.e., design, development concepts, management tools, operation, data base, content publishing and related net technologies and protocols).
  • Must be a maker. This job is 50% creative, 50% technical. The person who holds it must be able to both ideate breakthrough ideas and execute them with a small agile team.
