Director of Brewing Operations
It’s an exciting time at Abita Brewing Company. While the beer industry continues to evolve, we are expanding our portfolio with Abita-branded spirits and ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages, while also pushing system capacity through rapid growth in contract brewing and beverage production.
This role requires more than a strong background and passion for brewing—it calls for a strategic, solutions-oriented leader. The Director of Brewing Operations will bring deep technical expertise, a commitment to continuous improvement, and the ability to challenge the status quo to pursue operational excellence. This individual will identify opportunities for improvement, establish a clear and forward-looking vision across all aspects of brewing and beverage production, and inspire, train, and lead teams toward achieving that vision—while consistently demonstrating professionalism, optimism, and a focus on quality.
The Director of Brewing Operations provides leadership and direction for all brewing and beverage-blending operations at the brewery. Leads all brewing and beverage blending operations, oversees recipe development, and is instrumental in identifying and improving all aspects of brewing operations concerning efficiency, cost reduction, and profitability for both Abita and contract products. This individual shall have a vision for growth and can translate that into short and long term plans for staffing, maintenance, and capital expenditure priorities. This position will follow standard work methods and practice safe work habits to ensure production is as efficient and safe as possible.
Education/Qualifications
- A degree in Brewing Science or Technology is required.
- At least 7 years of experience in a production brewery.
- Proven success in a leadership role managing five or more employees.
- Knowledge of safe work operations, safety policies, and procedures.
- Experience with brewery quality assurance and quality control plans.
- Attention to detail, ability to recognize when there is a problem.
- Strong overall understanding of OSHA regulations and requirements.
- Knowledge of computers (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Positive attitude with an ongoing sense of urgency.
- Ability to understand and execute against deadlines.
- Excellent time and people management skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
- Budget management proficiency.
- Must be at least 21 years of age and eligible to work in the United States.
