Laboratory Technician

Reporting to the Director (Human Anatomy Laboratory) and the Director (Healthcare Simulation Center), the Laboratory Technician is a full-time, 12 month position that supports the educational experiences delivered in the gross anatomy laboratory and the healthcare simulation center.  The laboratory technician is responsible for:

 -       ensuring that the gross anatomy laboratory and simulation centers are consistently clean and safe for students and faculty;

-       setting up for teaching labs and learning experiences as specified by designated supervisor and/or faculty member; responsible for cleaning up upon completion of lessons;

-       helping maintain operations that are efficient and effective, and that lab / center users are complying with defined procedures;

-       managing inventory, ordering supplies and maintaining instrumentation that support each learning facility;

-       providing basic technical assistance to students and faculty as indicated by supervisor(s) to successfully support the learning experience;

-       assisting in training students and faculty on laboratory safety, procedures and equipment operations;

-       providing support to organize labs, simulations and exams;

-       ensuring that State and Federal regulations and ethical procedures are followed to human anatomical specimen use and standardized patient engagement;

-       engaging with teaching faculty / client as appropriate;

-       in conjunction with supervisors, helping to prepare and monitor budgets;

-       other duties as assigned by supervisor(s)

 

Qualifications:

·         High school diploma / GED; Associate’s degree preferred but not required

·         Basic computer knowledge and strong inventory and bookkeeping skills are required

·         Successful experience in laboratory management and knowledge of laboratory safety a plus

·         Ability to work under direct supervision and independently

·         Strong communication skills
