POSITION SUMMARY: 

 

The Bike Mechanic is a Moonlight Outfitters position requiring experience repairing bikes, guest service experience and the personality and ability to relate to and build trust with Moonlight Basin members, families, and guests. Our Bike Mechanic will share basic riding tips for mountain biking and e-biking when fitting members and guests with bikes as well as maintain mountain bikes and e-bikes. This position will be responsible for replacing and ordering parts as needed for the upkeep of the rental fleet. The Bike Mechanic should maintain the bike shop and all tools necessary to keep all bikes in working condition. Safety and fun within a unique outdoor experience are the ultimate goals of the Moonlight Outfitters Program.  

 

JOB DUTIES:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each job function satisfactorily, which includes:

  • Maintain and repair rental equipment, inventory, and report equipment damage to management if it is beyond repair.
  • Responsible for shop inventory and ordering. 
  • Keep the shop, work area and rental gear clean, tidy, and organized throughout the day.
  • Provide safe, fun, and professional tips while outfitting members with mountain bikes or e-bikes. 
  • Greet members and guests, assist with member check-in and equipment use waivers and rentals.
  • Utilize online waiver system and member check-in software.  
  • Always carry charged cell phone and radio to be in communication with supervisors on property.

·         Communicate all concerns, questions, potential problems, and scheduling issues with Director/Manager.

·         Participate in all required training, safety, and educational clinics.

·         Follow safety protocols. Make sound decisions regarding safety issues related to weather, changing conditions, animals, and client behaviors.

·         Assist in special events as needed.

  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Minimum of one (1) year experience as a mountain bike and e-bike mechanic.

·         Ability to work in a team environment.

·         Excellent interpersonal skills

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·         Familiarity with flora and fauna, geography, and geology of SW Montana

·         Resourcefulness, good judgement, self confidence

·         Knowledge of summer and winter hazards and ways to minimize risks for yourself and clients.

·         High School diploma and/or equivalent education.

·         Experience guiding or facilitating client-based winter and summer recreational programs in terrain like that found in SW Montana.

·         CPR/AED Adult, infant and child certified.

·         Wilderness first aid preferred.

·         Valid driver’s license.

·         Similar combination of education and experience

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, for six to ten hours a day as required.
  • Ability to use various tools and equipment as required.
  • Ability to ride bicycles.
  • Bend at the waist, twist upper body, kneel, crawl, climb, reach above shoulders, flex and extend ankle, knee, and hip joints.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs., push and pull 10-20 lbs.
  • Ability to work as many as 7 days consecutively during peak periods.
