Director of Accounting


Position Summary

Responsible for assisting the CFO with the daily operation of the Finance Department as it relates to all accounting and financial control functions.  The position involves duties for both First Guaranty Bank and First Guaranty Bancshares, Inc. the parent company of First Guaranty Bank.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1.      Responsible for assisting the CFO with the daily operation of the accounting function for the Finance Department. 

2.      The position will manage all personnel in the accounting group function.  Includes accounts payable, daily accounting, internal financial reporting, transfer agent services, holding company accounting. 

3.      The position will require working with bank management and facilitating accounting entries across bank departments.

4.      The position will assist the Controller with all accounting reconciliations, entries, various back up duties and the monthly financial closing process.  

5.      The position will help the CFO with the preparation and review of all internal financial statements.  The position will assist the External Reporting Manager with preparation of regulatory reports such as bank call reports, holding company call reports and SEC filings for the holding company. 

6.      The position will assist the CFO with transfer agent functions for the stock of First Guaranty Bancshares, Inc.

7.      The position will assist the CFO with supplemental back up support for the Treasury group function, primarily as an alternative approver for wires.

8.      Responsible for ensuring all required accounting documentation is collected, reviewed, approved, and passes all future reviews by internal and external auditors.

9.      Adheres to the BSA Policy and all other Bank Policies.

10.  Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by supervisor.


Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills)

  • 5 years or more accounting experience (banking experience or public accounting experience preferred)
  • Management experience
  • B.S. degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA license required
  • Knowledge of general ledger and accounting reconciliations
  • Experience with database management and construction
  • Knowledge of preparing financial statements, including audited or reviewed statements a plus.  Experience with regulatory reporting such as bank FDIC call reports or SEC financial filings a plus.
  • Experience in audit a plus.
  • Strong PC skills including excellent spreadsheet competence
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task as this position will require the incumbent to manage several different duties
