Community Engagement Coordinator

Are you experienced with public speaking and passionate about supporting programs that serve the vulnerable population in our community? The Mustard Seed is seeking a Community Engagement Coordinator. The Mustard Seed’s Community Engagement team fosters a Christ-centered understanding of poverty and homelessness to transform worldviews and mobilize the community. The team facilitates experiential and educational opportunities for people of all ages to broaden their knowledge of issues surrounding poverty and homelessness. 

Reporting to the Community Engagement Manager, the Community Engagement Coordinator will support the design, development, and implementation of Community Engagement programming in Calgary, focusing on (but not limited to) school engagement experiences. Primary duties will be to create and foster relationships with schools and post-secondary institutions to advance understanding of homelessness and poverty, and to mobilize the community to be part of building hope and wellbeing for our most vulnerable citizens.

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm
Reporting to: Community Engagement Manager
Location: Central Offices, Calgary


  • Creating and fostering relationships by networking with and making presentations to a diverse range of groups including churches, educational institutions, and the wider community  
  • Planning and facilitating the SEEDschool program 
  • Supporting the Seed Serve program in the summer 
  • Executing strong administrative duties to track and evaluate programming, relationships, and student engagement   
  • Assisting the Community Engagement Manager with the development and implementation of new initiatives to increase awareness around issues of poverty, homelessness, and solutions to these issues for staff, volunteers, and the general public


  • Minimum of an undergraduate degree; studies in fields related to development and social justice considered an asset   
  • Proven ability to network and build strategic partnerships  
  • Excellent public speaking skills
  • Excellent administrative, time management and organizational skills  
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, public relations and group facilitation skills  
  • Demonstrated success in leading and managing volunteers  
  • Self-motivated and capacity to work independently  
  • Competent with Microsoft Office  
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and/or video editing considered an asset  


  • This is a permanent fulltime 40 hours per week position  
  • Occasional/seasonal evening and weekend work will be required  
  • A medium level of physical fitness is necessary for support various programming  
  • Access to a vehicle for frequent external meetings and presentations required

  • This position requires the use of a personal vehicle for company use. The candidate must have a valid driver’s licence and maintain $2M Vehicle Liability insurance on the vehicle being used.
