Civil Field Technologist

Terracon Geotechnique Ltd. Fort McMurray, AB $30.00 to $35.00 per hour



Terracon Geotechnique Ltd. – an employee owned, western Canada based company, is looking for highly skilled and experienced Civil Field Technologists to join our growing team in Fort McMurray area.

The successful candidate will be involved in the construction monitoring, QA/QC monitoring, site investigations, foundation inspections, soils engineering, laboratory testing of concrete and soils on various challenging Oil Sands Projects. This role will require close attention to safety, quality, and efficiency.

These roles are fulltime, field-based positions, which require close alignment with Terracon’s S.I.T.E. values (Safety, Integrity, Teamwork and Entrepreneurism). This is a local Fort McMurray role.

Summary of Responsibilities:

·         Conduct field inspections and testing, including soil testing, earthwork, and concrete testing, to ensure compliance with projects specifications and industry standards

·         Monitor, document, and verify that the client construction meets design specifications

·         Provide client representatives with field and laboratory testing results; monitor sub-contractor adherence to design specifications

·         Conduct piling inspections

·         Coordinate with projects team members, including engineers and contractors

·         Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements

·         Responsible for quality control, quality assurance and ensuring that all work is performed to the highest standards


What We’re Looking For

·         Degree/Diploma in Civil Engineering, Geosciences or Technology, or an equivalent combination of education and field experience

·         Minimum 2-years of experience in the technical field-based role

·         Knowledge of civil construction techniques, materials and equipment considered an asset

·         Excellent communication and organizational skills

·         Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities

·         Preference will be given to those who have a membership with ASET or APEGA

·         Preference will be given to those who have previous oil sands experience

·         Strong commitment to safety, knowledge of safety regulations and experience in implementing safety procedures on oil sands projects

Working Conditions, Schedule, and Physical Requirements

·         Legally authorized to work in Canada on an ongoing basis

·         Must have valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract and 2 years’ experience in the industry field

·         Working schedule up to 12-hour days; day and night shifts

·         Must be physically able to perform field work as required. A fitness for work test will be performed before hired

·         Successfully complete a drug & alcohol test
