Biohabitats is a leading conservation planning, ecological restoration, and regenerative design and construction firm seeking a Geospatial Analyst to join our mission-driven team. With eight Bioregional offices nationwide, Biohabitats works throughout the country and internationally with public, private, and non-profit organizations to restore the earth and inspire ecological stewardship.

The Geospatial Analyst will be responsible for data collection, management and analyses for a wide variety of project types and scales including watershed and ecological assessments, wetland delineation, restoration planning, climate resiliency, and integrated water strategies.

Work will primarily focus on our projects in the western states with supporting services provided to our eastern region office projects.

Specific responsibilities include providing skills in ESRI suite of products; spatial analysis and map mapping; field work support; and assisting in scoping tasks (level of effort and costs) and GIS administration.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, self-directed, is flexible and can work on a variety of project tasks, possesses good communication skills and is passionate about the environment.

  • Generating, managing, maintaining and quality controlling data that inform a wide variety of environmental and ecological projects
  • Developing visually appealing, readable, and informative maps to communicate natural resource assessments and design
  • Developing working, interactive, online and cloud-based (ArcGIS Online) maps for a broad suite of implementation including internal field work efforts, client communication, community engagement and public interaction
  • ETL data management of both spatial and tabular data
  • Automation of mapping and data management processes
  • Creative implementation of spatial thinking, problem solving, solution generation and a desire to build such proficiencies 
  • Assisting with field work for natural resources assessments

Required Skills

  • 2-3 years of GIS experience
  • Technical knowledge of GIS, geographic data and spatial data implementation
  • Knowledge and interest in computer programming, cartography, database modeling, remote sensing, big data
  • Knowledge and experience with ESRI Suite of Products including ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online
  • Experience in mobile field application development and web GIS environments including ArcGIS Field Maps and similar applications
  • Excellent problem solving, time management and verbal/written communication skills
  • Ability to collect GIS requirements from clients, communicate actionable solutions and create data management workflows to increase efficiencies
  • Experience producing high quality cartographic products based on project-specific and client needs
  • The ability to determine hardware and software requirements necessary to meet demands

Preferred Skills

  • Environmental, social or ecological data experience
  • Development, automation and scripting experience
  • Experience with Python and Python Notebooks
  • Other useful scripting languages include: R, JavaScript, UNIX shell
  • Knowledge of the basics of spatial computation including machine learning applications
  • Environmental mobile field application preparation and field experience
  • Experience with CAD software, especially AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Experience with Adobe suite of graphic tools including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign
  • Experience or interest in collecting and processing UAV imagery

BS in Geospatial Science, Geography, or related field. M.S. with experience in applications for environmental science or ecology preferred.
