Harness Engineer, Principle | York Space Systems

We are seeking a Harness Engineer, Principal. This position is responsible for the full lifecycle of harness.  This includes creating a harness design from clean sheet to integrating the harness onto the spacecraft. The lead is also responsible for tasking other engineers supporting the design, procurement of parts, and oversight of harness manufacturing.  This is a multi-disciplinary role that crosses electrical, mechanical, systems, and manufacturing. 

 

Responsibilities 

  • Architect and design overall harness system for bus and payloads for specific missions 

  • Work with every subsystem to ensure design meets requirements and allocations 

  • Create pin-to-pin electrical schematics and review schematics generated by others 

  • Oversee or create 3D harness models in Solidworks 

  • Provide technical expertise and leadership for connectors, materials, harness design and harness manufacturing 

  • Create presentations for design reviews and customer reviews when necessary 

  • Oversee harness routing and manufacturing 

  • Meet with multi-disciplinary stakeholders to gather harness design objectives and requirements   

  • Ability to go above and beyond job duties described herein 

 

Qualifications 

  • Passionate about space and self-motivating / self-tasking 

  • Pride in the quality of your work 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or a related technical field.  Masters a plus 

  • 10+ years of full lifecycle design of harnesses for old-space vehicles or space payloads or 4+ years in new-space working multiple fast-paced harness designs.  Knowledge and understanding of what you did wrong on previous designs 

  • Solid understanding of aerospace harness standards such as AS50881, NASA 8739.4 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 

  • Solid understanding of aerospace and commercial grade connectors, wires, and materials 

  • Solid understanding of common best practices associated with harness design and routing. 

  • Understand requirements associated with routing different types of signals (power, analog, digital) 

  • 1+ years' experience using Zuken E3 for harness schematics on a daily basis (Capital Logic may substitute) 

  • Experience with 3D CAD tools such as Solidworks, Creo, NX or similar 

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain U.S. security clearance (U.S. citizenship required)
