The Arab-American Family Support Center (AAFSC) is a non-profit, non-sectarian organization established in 1994 to provide culturally and linguistically competent, trauma-informed social services. Across our eight locations, we empower immigrants and refugees with the tools they need to successfully acclimate to the world around them and become active participants in the community. While we support anyone who walks through our doors, over nearly 25 years, we have developed expertise in serving the Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim, and South Asian (AMEMSA) immigrant and refugee communities.
AAFSC works across four priority areas—Promote, Get Ready, Prevent, and Communicate—to achieve our ultimate goal of strengthening families. AAFSC promotes mental and physical wellbeing, food security, healthy relationships, and family reunification. We get our families ready to succeed, work, and lead productive lives. We prevent domestic violence, child abuse, and neglect by counseling families, offering case management services to victims of violence, and cultivating healthy relationship skills in young people. Finally, AAFSC communicates the needs of the marginalized, amplifying their voices for increased impact.
The Arab-American Family Support Center (AAFSC) is looking for a dynamic Manager, Community Health and Well-Being to join our team. The Manager, Community Health and Well-Being will be tasked with managing several services in the Community Health and Wellbeing Department, including coordinating and supporting community-led programs, as well as providing other critical direct services, program and project support around health and well-being initiatives at AAFSC.
The successful Manager, Community Health and Well-Being will be an experienced and strategic program/project manager with deep knowledge of how to support and scale community-based programs. This individual will have a record as a trusted and respectful partner, a diplomatic and collaborative leader, and a compelling representative to community members and partners. This role will bring a trauma-informed, culturally-responsive, and linguistically-appropriate lens to build key relationships and support networks for AMEMSA (Arab, Middle-Eastern, Muslim and South Asian) community members. A commitment to immigrant, refugee and low-income communities is essential for success in this role.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Partnership Building and Project Management
· Manage the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Health Insurance Enrollment program, and NYC Care Program. Ensure all program related items, deadlines & deliverables are met, including:
o Creation and submission of reports in a timely manner;
o Tracking progress towards applicable deliverables. Tracking & monitoring accordingly;
o Ensuring deliverables are met on a weekly & monthly basis;
o Maintaining and tracking on-going outreach to community members;
o Creation of internal & external referrals;
o Enrolling community members in services;
o Monitoring that regular team members are organized and facilitating team meetings;
o Management of any issues that may arise, troubleshooting & resolving in a timely manner.
· Manage the Emergency Funds Program, which provides one-time financial assistance for clients experiencing hardship. Ensure all program related items, deadlines & deliverables are met, including:
o Reviewing applications submitted and following up with staff for supplemental information as needed;
o Preparing for Emergency Fund Review Board weekly meetings;
o Tracking funds disbursed;
o Submitting for check requests & coordinating disbursement of checks;
o Purchasing approved goods on behalf of client;
o Maintaining email correspondence and updates with staff;
o Submitting reports and case studies as requested;
o Surveying clients at 6-month mark and at 1 year mark following grant funding.
· Build relationships, coordinate, and work in collaboration with community members, community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, government institutions, law enforcement and elected officials to achieve project goals outlined above.
· Raise awareness for AMEMSA public health concerns and disparities as they relate to community health and well-being.
· Conduct research, and design, write, and edit strategy documents, concept notes, briefs, presentations, and other deliverables for a variety of audiences.
· Develop and maintain work plans, milestones, and other tools to ensure quality outcomes including reporting.
· Strategize, coordinate, and implement targeted outreach to community residents in collaboration with AAFSC’s Resource Development team (i.e. develop outreach materials, plan informational sessions on key issues, place targeted ads in ethnic media, etc.).
Capacity Building and Organizational Learning
· Build and maintain active repository of project documents that is made accessible and available for team members to use.
· Deepen organizational capacity to work collaboratively with community partners so as to invest resources and convene, organize and support critical work that is underway.
· Develop and deliver customized workshops, technical assistance and presentations regarding Community Health and Well-being initiatives.
· Work with program team members and AAFSC senior management to collect and analyze outcome data of programs areas.
· Prepare reports for internal use and external distribution summarizing analyzed results, as well as any other findings.
· Assist in the administration of surveys, focus groups and other program assessments to establish an ecosystem map of clients’ needs and gaps in needs.
· Ensure all paperwork and documentation is completed in a timely manner.
Ambassador & Champion
· Every AAFSC team member serves as an ambassador of the organization and champion of AAFSC’s mission, vision and values. This includes the following:
o Cultivate relationships on behalf of and in support of the organization in partnership with Senior Leadership and the Resource Development team. This includes being sensitive to and aware of others, providing every client, partner and participant with high-quality service, professional communication, and follow through, and always keeping Senior Leadership and the Development & Communications team aware of any opportunities, challenges, or updates.
o All team members are expected to support the Resource Development team with any requests in a timely manner, including, but not limited to: grant applications, reports, attendance at meetings, hearings, or other events, and sharing of AAFSC social media, flyers, and other externally-facing communications.
o Always act with integrity, positivity, dedication, and professionalism within the office and externally. This includes, but is not limited to, email communication, verbal communication, communication with colleagues and peers, communication with clients, or communication with external partners or agencies.
Other duties and responsibilities
· Provide direct services and project support for health and well-being initiatives at AAFSC, and coordinate referrals as appropriate.
· Attend regular meetings and special events as needed, as an ambassador of AAFSC.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
· This role does not currently have any direct reports, however there may be the opportunity to supervise 2-3 staff and/or interns as resources permit.
· Minimum of BS/BA in social services, mental health, public health or equivalent; Master’s degree preferred.
· At least 2+ years of experience working with immigrants and refugees from AMEMSA populations.
· At least 3+ years managing programs, meeting tight deadlines, and juggling multiple duties simultaneously
· Fluency in Bangla/Bengali and/or Spanish strongly preferred.
· Ability to work normal business hours with occasional hours outside the normal work schedule, e.g. community events or special events occurring on evenings or weekends.
· Passion for making a difference in the community.
· Diplomatic leader who acts as a bridge builder, working collaboratively and in unison with all partners.
· Strong attention to detail, responsibility and dependability in data management and reporting to external and internal database platforms.
· Committed to continuous quality improvement and learning.
· Strong presentation and public speaking skills, as well as advanced written
· Excellent time management and organizational skills.
· Working knowledge of communities in NYC.
· Ability to communicate persuasively across diverse identities and populations.
· U.S. Work Authorization required.
