MUSE ARTIST ROLE
Position Title: Artist
Reports to: Store Manager
Position Type: Non-Exempt
Muse Paintbar combines acrylic painting instruction with a beer/wine bar & light fare. We host 2-2.5 hour nightly events during which patrons will receive step-by-step instruction on a particular painting while socializing in a vibrant yet relaxing wine bar atmosphere.
Responsibilities will vary depending on whether you are the "Assistant" or the "Lead Instructor" for the session. In the beginning, you will be the "Assistant" more often than you will be the "Lead Instructor," since we like to ease people into the role. But we do expect everyone on our team to be able to instruct in front of groups of up to 50 people. Everyone on our team will both Lead and Assist.
When you're the instructor, you will be the primary person teaching the class how to paint the painting. You will be up on stage around 40% of the time (depending on your style, the specific painting, etc.) of a 2-2.5 hour session. When you're the assistant, you will be largely tending the beer and wine bar and helping the customers with their paintings (helping to add custom items to the painting, get people to desired color mixes, etc.).
The time commitment for each Lead/Assist session is between 4.5-5 hours. Most of our sessions are at nights/weekends, so this is ok as a second income or if you are a student. We also have some day sessions (nearly always on Saturday/Sunday and some on weekdays like work events). We're looking for people who can work somewhere between 2-6 days a week. Given the changes in consumer movement and preferences with the recent COVID-19 pandemic, this general time commitment may change. For example, as individual cities and towns open, we anticipate that we will be required to offer smaller sessions more frequently throughout the course of a day.
All of our employees are cross trained in the kitchen so the team is well rounded. The time commitment for each session is 3-3.5 hours, and some days (mostly weekends) have double sessions. Our food operation is fairly basic. We have a combination of tapas style appetizers that we heat in convection ovens and cold plates (like cheese platters, hummus plates) that require some cutting. We also want the food to have a good presentation.
Furthermore, cleaning is everyone’s responsibility. Keeping our studios clean and safe for customers and employees is a team effort. If you see something that can be improved on the cleanliness front, say something or better yet – do it. You also may be asked to wipe down doorknobs, tables, bars, iPads and other surfaces that are touched frequently.
In addition to in-studio session work, you may be scheduled for work related to “Muse To Go”. This would include developing, executing and/or appearing in online content, collaborating with the creative team on projects, taking photos/video for marketing purposes, appearing in photos/videos for marketing purposes, hosting Zoom/web-based painting sessions, unpacking/organizing supplies, and assembling kits to fulfill orders both for shipping and curbside takeaway.
Our instructors are invited to use our venue to paint as much as desired. In fact, we encourage it! We will also supply free paint/canvases for these paintings. We allow you to use up to 10 free canvases per month and our paint for your personal artwork. All we ask is that you are reasonable in using the supplies we provide. For example, please only take what you need for reasonable sized pieces of art. If you’re creating murals for your personal art, we will not be able to provide you with the large quantities of paint required.
If you’re in one of our studios working on your personal art, we just ask that you service customers if they come in to ask a question, buy a gift certificate, etc. Additionally, we can display and sell some of your artwork (5-10 rotating pieces, depending on space) in our studios.
No traveling involved . . . except in very rare circumstances and would be voluntary (e.g.,when we are opening new locations).
