GIS Specialist

Providence is seeking to employ a full-time GIS Specialist for our Baton Rouge, LA office.  This is an opportunity that will allow you to join a team and be responsible for overseeing the production of maps, figures, and public meeting exhibits as well as managing the company's GIS online and spatial analysis capabilities. As a GIS Specialist, we would like a team member that is familiar with wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species surveys, cultural resources surveys, Phase I ESAs, SWPPPs, SPCCs, and State and Federal Permitting. Drone pilot experience under 14 CFR Part 107 and familiarity with AutoCAD drawings are also plus, but not required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • Three to five years of experience working with GIS software and spatial analysis
  • Experience with GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, Survey123, AutoCAD, FME, GPS, Field Maps, and ArcGIS Online
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Supervisory/ Lead experience preferred


Work is performed in an office environment

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment
  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs.


  • Manage the production of maps, figures, and large-format meeting exhibits
  • Oversee the company's GIS online capabilities including data management and web mapping
  • Provide technical expertise in GIS software, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, Survey123, AutoCAD, FME, GPS, Field Maps and GIS Online
  • Conduct spatial analyses
  • Lead and train junior GIS staff
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure GIS data and analyses support project goals
  • Remotely support environmental field crews using GIS online via Field Maps, Survey123, and QuickCapture
