Job Title: Communications Designer (Fund Development Communications and Creative Design Intern)

Hourly Rate: $16.50

Contract Term: 8-week term

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week

Position Type: Canada Summer Jobs contract

Eligibility Criteria:
The candidate must meet the criteria below to qualify for roles funded by Canada Summer Jobs.
  1. The candidate must be between the ages of 15 and 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
  2. The candidate must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person who has been granted refugee status in Canada
  3. The candidate must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment

Who We Are:
Heritage Park is Canada's largest living history museum and offers visitors a chance to experience life in Western Canada from the 1860s to the early 1950s. The park features historical buildings, costumed interpreters, working antiques, and various exhibits that provide insight into the region's past.

Job Overview:
The Communications Designer (Fund Development Communications & Graphic Design Intern) supports the creation, design, and production of donor-focused communication and marketing assets the Fund Development Team at Heritage Park. This role blends creative design, graphic design, emotional storytelling and writing, and fundraising principles to produce high-quality materials that inspire donor engagement, strengthen stewardship, and support revenue-generating initiatives. 

Responsibilities:
Donor Impact Reporting & Stewardship
  • Design templates for general and donor-specific impact reports. 
  • Create visual elements—photos, infographics, icons, imagery, short videos—that enhance emotional resonance. 
  • Write compelling impact stories that show donor-funded change, connecting emotional meaning with factual outcomes. 
  • Support staff in assembling narrative-rich stewardship materials that honour donors and deepen engagement. 
Campaign & Appeal Asset Development
  • Help create templates and assets for direct mail and email appeals. 
  • Develop emotionally driven messaging that aligns with donor motivations and fundraising best practices. 
  • Produce on-brand visuals and narrative elements that reflect the museum’s role in preserving history. 

Sponsorship & Corporate Partnership Materials

  • Design and format sponsorship proposals and recognition packages. 
  • Craft storytelling elements that demonstrate community impact and corporate alignment. 
  • Ensure all materials reflect professionalism, emotional relevance, and brand integrity. 

Marketing & Social Media Support

  • Design social media graphics, reels, and short videos for giving campaigns and stewardship messaging. 
  • Assist in writing short-form stories that highlight donor impact, visitor experiences, and cultural significance. 
  • Maintain consistency with brand voice, emotional tone, and aesthetic guidelines. 

Cross-Team Collaboration & Mentorship 

  • Participate in weekly mentorship sessions on storytelling, brand voice, donor psychology, and design principles. 
  • Work with communications staff to develop narrative frameworks that reinforce emotional connection. 
  • Develop a professional portfolio showing storytelling and design pieces used in real fundraising contexts. 
  • Event and Annual Giving support. 
  • Data intelligence support. 

Qualifications:

  • Must meet the Canada Summer Jobs eligibility criteria
  • Experience Creating Digital Graphic Designs 
  • Experience with design tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.)
  • Passion for storytelling, heritage, history, and charitable impact. 
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to craft emotionally compelling narratives
  • Creative mindset with demonstrated ability to connect visuals and stories to donor impact
  • Ability to generate content that blends emotional appeal with factual accuracy
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with Raiser’s Edge is an asset
  • High level of integrity and trustworthiness in handling confidential organizational information 
  • Commitment to continuous learning and development 
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills in a client-faced setting 
  • All successful candidates who are over the age of 18 are required to complete a background check. Employment at Heritage Park is contingent upon receipt of a satisfactory report prior to their contract start date
