The Arab-American Family Support Center (AAFSC) is a non-profit,
non-sectarian organization established in 1994 to provide culturally and
linguistically competent, trauma-informed social services. Across our eight
locations, we empower immigrants and refugees with the tools they need to successfully
acclimate to the world around them and become active participants in the
community. While we support anyone who walks through our doors, over nearly 27
years, we have developed expertise in serving the Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim,
and South Asian (AMEMSA) immigrant and refugee communities.
AAFSC works across four priority areas—Promote, Get Ready,
Prevent, and Communicate—to achieve our ultimate goal of strengthening
families. AAFSC promotes mental and physical wellbeing, food security, healthy
relationships, and family reunification. We get our families ready to succeed,
work, and lead productive lives. We prevent domestic violence, child abuse, and
neglect by counseling families, offering case management services to victims of
violence, and cultivating healthy relationship skills in young people. Finally,
AAFSC communicates the needs of the marginalized, amplifying their voices for
Instructor at AAFSC works within our Readiness Initiatives Program to provide
limited English proficient adults with contextualized instruction that gives
students the civic and English language skills to effectively participate in
the English-speaking environment in which they live. The instructor fosters a
classroom environment that offers participants the resources, opportunities and
support needed to help them grow and achieve self-sufficiency. A successful
person in this role is
experienced, creative, hard-working and dynamic ESOL instructor who has
experience creating student-centered learning environments, using a
communicative approach, and incorporating civic engagement, job readiness and
technology in the classroom. A commitment to immigrant, refugee and low-income
communities is essential for this role.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop & write new lesson plans, or adapt
existing lesson plans, to meet student needs and stated class objectives.
- Provide instruction and facilitate classroom
activities in line with stated class objectives.
- Prepare students to take the Citizenship test
and pass the interview.
- Build instructional activities around the four
interdependent components of reading: alphabetics, fluency, vocabulary,

individualized instruction, small group instruction, and whole class
- Facilitate learning with textbooks, workbooks,
lectures, computer based educational programs, audio/visual aids, hands-on
activities, and use of tutors.
- Assist students with the development of digital
literacy skills and provide learning activities designed to enhance
financial literacy skills.
- Maintain accurate student attendance records.
- Ensure all lessons and structured activities have clearly defined
outcomes with measurable skill gains and/or learning goals for adult
active repository of curricula that is made accessible and available on
collaboration with Program Director and Associate Director, continuously
evaluate and refine curricula and activity plans to ensure success for
adult learners attending program.
- Ensure all
paperwork and documentation is completed in a timely manner.
- Report any
issues in the classroom (either with students or volunteers) immediately

Every AAFSC team member serves as an
ambassador of the organization and champion of AAFSC’s mission, vision and

Cultivate relationships on behalf of and in
support of the organization in partnership with Senior Leadership and the
Resource Development team. This includes being sensitive to and aware of
others, providing every client, partner and participant with high-quality
service, professional communication, and follow through, and always keeping

opportunities, challenges, or updates.
All team members are expected to support the
Resource Development team with any requests in a timely manner, including, but
not limited to: grant applications, reports, attendance at meetings, hearings,

BACKGROUND AND POSITION
Bachelor’s degree required.
Teaching certification (TESLA, TESOL, CELTA,
BEST Plus certification required.
Ability to teach both remote online
classes and in-person classes.
Experience with teaching beginner adult
students, including Literacy Learners, required.
