Alpha Building Corporation is seeking an Estimator at our San Antonio office. The Estimator will gather, calculate and compile data for use in the conceptual bid or proposal estimates and prepare routine unit price proposals and estimates under general supervision.
Typical duties include unit price estimates using RS Means or other such guides. The Estimator should be developing the scope of work first, subcontract and price work, produce the unit price proposal, create the preliminary schedule and negotiate on behalf of Alpha and our clients. The Estimator will be interfacing with department representatives, construction officials, architects, engineers and consultants to establish project requirements, specifications and schedules. He or she should maintain a working relationship with the client, client personnel, our subcontractors and local suppliers in addition to preparing and coordinating the project schedule, attending turnover meetings with subcontractors and superintendents and collectively work with the project manager on the award of bids. The Estimator is expected to manage working documents as back-up for estimate figures including current information on prices from suppliers and assist in preparing project-closing documents, including as-built drawings.
The Estimator will review proposal specifications and drawings to determine the scope of work and required contents of the estimate; identify items for the work plan, specifications and seek clarification or identification of unknown aspects. He or she will participate in job walks and discussions with the client regarding the project goals and prepare the delivery order estimate using the contract unit price book and other estimating guidelines and techniques by calculating complete takeoff from the scope of work and identifying appropriate line items in the unit price book. The Estimator should monitor project costs and local costs of materials, labor and rentals to assure competitive pricing.
Safety is a priority at Alpha Building Corporation and the estimator should ensure that the Safety Hazard Analysis Checklist is completed on projects and help his or her team meet all safety standards. He or she will attend the required training as provided by Alpha.
Four-year engineering or construction degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or experience. 2-5 years estimating, cost controls, construction and/or engineering experience related to facility construction.
Current drivers license and insurance, successfully pass a non-dot drug screen, motor vehicle records check and background check prior to employment.
Lift and carry objects over 20 pounds, see well either naturally or with correction and sit or walk for long periods of time as needed. Must be able to climb ladders, stoop, kneel, stand and walk.
Knowledge of assigned discipline, estimating techniques and cost control, plus ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems is essential. The Estimator should be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally in English. Knowledge of Microsoft Project, SureTrack, and 4Clicks is a plus.
