POSITION SUMMARIES:

The Technical Assistance Specialist provides services and support to early care and education and school-age childcare programs to address concerns and work cooperatively to increase the availability of high-quality child care within the region. Services are focused on startup, quality improvement, program participation in initiatives, and other areas of need as identified by MFN, MSDE, and the provider/program. 

The Early Childhood Coach provides high quality coaching and communities of practice to support early care and education and school-age child care programs to address concerns and work cooperatively increase the availability of high-quality child care within the region. Coaching utilizes the Practice Based Coaching model (developed by The Pyramid Model Consortium) and Facilitated Attuned Interactions (developed by the Erikson Institute) as the model and coaching style for these services. The coach is a collaborative partner with programs participating in services and guides programs to increasing knowledge and skills and aligning teaching environments and teaching strategies to research-based quality approaches. 

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE SPECIALIST RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plan and conduct support sessions for child care providers/programs focused on identified needs, quality initiative programs, and other programs and topics utilizing virtual platforms and in-person consultation as appropriate;

Provides support in applying for and accessing Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) initiatives including Maryland Accreditation Project, Maryland Child Care Credential Program, Maryland Excels, Early Learning Assessment, Environmental Rating Scales, and others as identified;

Establishes strong relationships with child care community and acts as a liaison;

Assists in content development for CCRC newsletters focused on quality initiatives,

developmentally appropriate practices, teaching strategies, and other topics of interest and relevance for programs/providers;

Documents all work and services utilizing the MCCRN Data System as directed by MFN; and

Assists with events and outreach activities in support of the early childhood care and education community.

EARLY CHILDHOOD COACH RESPONSIBILITIES

Plans and conducts coaching sessions and community of practice sessions for child care providers/programs focused on identified needs, quality initiative programs, and other programs and topics utilizing virtual platforms and in-person consultation as appropriate;

Provides coaching services which increase the knowledge of providers, teachers, and staff to provide high-quality, research-based, inclusive care to all children within the program;

Utilizes resources and supports developed by MSDE and other stakeholders which support provider/program participation in quality initiatives such as Maryland EXCELS, the Maryland Child Care Credential Program, and other initiatives as identified and available;

Establishes strong relationships with child care community and acts as a liaison;

Assists in content development for CCRC newsletters focused on quality initiatives,

developmentally appropriate practices, teaching strategies, and other topics of interest and relevance for programs/providers; 

Documents all work and services utilizing the MCCRN Data System as directed by MFN; and

Assists with events and outreach activities in support of the early childhood care and education community.

Participate in Train the Trainer opportunities and conduct approved workshops

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s Degree in early childhood education, special education, child development, or closely related field

Completion of a 3-credit (45 clock hour) course in Child Development and completion of a 3-credit (45 clock hour) course on Curriculum/Methods and Materials for Infant/Toddler, Preschool, and/or School-Age

EXPERIENCE:

5 years’ experience in early childhood education program, licensed child care (center and/or family child care), school-age child care, Head Start/Early Head Start, or PreK education setting
