Swim Instructor - Thomas E. Hannah Branch
GENERAL FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Aquatic Director, the swim instructor is responsible for teaching swim lessons in accordance with the American Red Cross and/or YMCA of the USA aquatic program standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Swim instructor candidates must be 16 years old.

Prefer certification in American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor

Prefer Lifeguard with First Aid and CPR/AED certification

Become certified in Adult, Child, Infant CPR/AED within 6 months of hire

Must complete Child Abuse Prevention Training and New Employee Orientation within 90 days of initial employment
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain a safe pool environment.

Assist in maintaining cleanliness of pool, deck, storage and surrounding areas.

Report at least 5 minutes before classes begin wearing an appropriate swim suit and instructor shirt

Meet and greet parents and children as they arrive for swim lessons.

Maintain a professional appearance and attitude at all times.

Maintain attendance records, skill sheets and progress reports for all students.

Know and practice all emergency action plans and procedures.

Secure a substitute in the event of illness or emergency and notify Aquatic Director.

Teach safe swim lessons in accordance with YMCA National Swim Program policies.

Engage in positive public relations with members.

Refrain from eating, reading, talking or texting on cell phones while on duty.

Perform additional tasks delegated by Aquatic Director for the overall benefit of the Aquatic Department and YMCA.
