Senior Director of Fundraising Events

 The Senior Director of Fundraising Events reports to the Associate Vice President of Annual Giving, Membership and Fundraising Events and is responsible for overall event strategy, logistics, and revenue goals for Advancement events to achieve the donor engagement and revenue goals of The National World War II Museum.  The ideal candidate will be a highly skilled and talented leader, who collaboratively works with and through others to achieve excellence.

Major Duties and Overview of Goals and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Museum’s annual Fundraising Events, which currently include Victory Ball, The American Spirit Award Gala, major donor recognition and stewardship events, special openings and dedications, regional cultivation events and other events as directed.
  • In consultation with IA and Executive leadership develop event strategy and messaging content that reinforces the purpose and goals of the event; create marketing and publicity materials and execute marketing strategy to promote events to potential attendees and sponsors.
  • Oversee all aspects of executing events including budgeting, vendor procurement, contracting, developing collateral, crafting messaging for speakers and VIPs; and the development of audience.
  • Develop a systematized process for event execution and evaluation, including creating a resource guide for planning events and evaluation tools for measuring the success of each event.
  • Manage volunteer committees, co-chairs and Board contacts, as appropriate, utilizing their connections and particular expertise.
  • Work with fundraising teams to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward sponsorship gifts and funding required to ensure events meet revenue targets.
  • Manage and mentor the Manager of Fundraising Events.
  • Develop the Young Benefactors constituent group with the assistance of the Fundraising Events Manager and other Museum staff to interest a 30-45 year old cohort of Museum supporters and advocates.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Associate Vice President.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least five years of experience in special event planning or an equivalent non-profit experience.
  • Excellent oral, written and electronic communications skills with an emphasis on attention to detail and ability to adapt style.
  • Expertise in volunteer management, knowledge of best practices in events management.
  • Demonstrated competence in computer technologies, Raiser’s Edge database, PowerPoint, and other presentation and desktop publishing software.
  • Ability to work on multiple assignments under pressure and to consistently meet deadline schedules.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule – including weekends and evenings
  • Ability to understand the mission and programs of The National World War II Museum and to interpret those to donors in the form of creative proposal packages;  knowledge of World War II history is a plus.
  • Approaches projects with creativity; is self-initiating and organized; demonstrates good judgment; understands the importance of collaboration and team-building.
