- People Leadership – Lead and mentor a team of software developers and team leads to support professional growth, career development, and high performance. You will conduct performance evaluations, facilitate coaching sessions, and ensure alignment with department and individual objectives. You will lead self and team through HCM (Human Capital Management) platform modernization and Agile transformation by modeling adaptability, enabling new ways of working, and supporting a team of software developers and team leads through uncertainty and transition.
- Project and Operational Leadership – Oversee day-to-day execution of development activities, ensuring delivery on timelines, budget, and scope. You will identify and implement tools and frameworks that enhance team efficiency and software quality.
- Technical Strategy & Innovation – You will collaborate with senior leadership and architecture teams to drive the technical roadmap and long-term development strategy. Recommend and evaluate new technologies, frameworks, and coding standards to ensure system scalability and performance.
- Stakeholder Collaboration – You will work with cross-functional teams including Product, QA, Infrastructure, and Support to align on goals and prioritize initiatives. Communicate development plans, progress, and risks to stakeholders at all levels.
- Governance & Process Improvement - Define and refine development processes, standards, and best practices to optimize delivery and code quality. You will contribute to strategic planning initiatives and risk management related to software development.
- Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in software development, including 2+ years in a leadership or management role.
- Experience in SaaS product development within the HR/payroll or workforce management domain is an asset.
- Strong leadership and mentoring abilities to guide technical teams and build cohesive, high-performing groups.
- Advanced problem-solving and critical thinking with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and implement effective solutions.
- Excellent communication skills to clearly articulate technical ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proven experience in Agile development environments with a focus on iterative delivery and continuous improvement.
- Skilled in project management, backlog prioritization, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Proficient in using development tools and platforms, including source control (Git), issue tracking (JIRA), and documentation (Confluence).
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with a focus on results and accountability.
- Demonstrates creativity, adaptability, and a commitment to delivering high-quality software products.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban), DevOps tools, CI/CD pipelines, and modern cloud-based architectures.
- Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle and project delivery practices.
- Familiarity with Workforce Management, Payroll, HRIS, or similar enterprise platforms.
- Experience with languages and frameworks such as C#, .NET, SQL, JavaScript, and RESTful APIs.
- Understanding of integration technologies and modern software architectures, including microservices.
- Comfortable working with cloud environments (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and associated DevOps tooling.

The Manager, Development has the option to work fully from a Payworks office or on a hybrid work model, working in the office at least three (3) days a week. This role may require participation in an on-call rotation for after-hours support, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
