Coordonnateur sénior environnement / Senior environment coordinator
Reporting to the Environment Director, the Senior Environment Coordinator will assist the Director in the planning, organization, control and monitoring of environmental activities. He or she will be required to work closely with the staff of the various associated companies, external consultants and other members of the Company depending on the projects and expected results. Based at the Windfall site in the Nord-du-Québec region, he/she will work an eight (8) day on, six (6) day off schedule. Transportation, accommodation and meals provided.
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act at all times as a leader in safety, environment and community relations to help achieve the highest standards;
- Comply at all times with occupational health and safety and environmental policies and regulations and ensure that staff comply with these rules;
- Assist in setting objectives, schedules and budgets for their department;
- Support management in the management of human, material and financial resources in their unit;
- Plan and supervise the work of employees and apply the supervision formula;
- Participate in the implementation of an environmental management system;
- Implement short, medium and long-term plans, policies and procedures related to environmental protection;
- Support baseline environmental data collection teams when present at the site;
- Ensure compliance of activities in relation to the permits and authorizations obtained;
- Establish effective relationships with the various ministries;
- Prepare annual reports and statements for the various ministries;
- Raise awareness among the various stakeholders of the Windfall project on the principles of sound environmental management;
- Support the workforce and participate in the recruitment of employees under his/her responsibility;
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the activities under his/her responsibility in order to determine whether the staff has the necessary equipment, skills and training to perform their tasks safely, and make corrections if necessary;
- Conduct performance evaluations of the staff under his/her responsibility;
- Contribute to the development of the skills of the department's personnel by providing effective supervision to enable the achievement of individual and functional objectives;
- Report any situation that could affect the occupational health and safety of personnel or the physical integrity of the facilities;
- Perform any other tasks related to the position of senior environmental coordinator that are relevant to the success of the project.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- University degree in a field relevant to the position;
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the environment, including five (5) years of supervisory experience;
- Experience working with First Nations (an asset).
TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Functional oral and written English (will have to communicate with English-speaking employees and suppliers);
- Experience of working with an environmental management system to ISO 14001 (an asset);
- Excellent knowledge of the regulatory framework for mining development;
- Knowledge of the regulations governing mining exploration and exploitation activities (Directive 019, REMMMD);
- Expertise in the fields of water, soil, air and energy.
