Reporting to the general manager, the assistant general manager will be responsible for the planning, organization, management and control of mining-related activities. He will play an active role in the strategic development of the organization. He will work a 4-3 schedule. He will be required to work at Windfall. Transportation, accommodation and meals will be provided.
Duties and responsibilities
• Support the general manager in the development and implementation of the mine's overall strategy;
• Act as a representative of the Company;
• Coordinate the daily operations of the underground mine to ensure efficient production in accordance with health and safety, environmental and other standards and values.
• Maintain contacts and good relations with internal and external stakeholders and indigenous groups;
• Support the health, safety and environmental teams, for example, during investigations and analyses associated with incidents. Ensure that these are completed rigorously within the prescribed deadlines;
• Implement and monitor production plans, adjusting strategies according to needs and performance;
• Prepare weekly, monthly and annual reports as required and requested;
• Produce budgets for the sectors for which he/she is responsible;
• Represent the general manager on site during his/her absences.
• Recommend to senior management any operational changes that may be necessary to ensure that procedures are followed and objectives are met;
• Comply at all times with health, safety and environmental policies and ensure that these rules are complied with by staff;
• Carry out any other tasks related to the position of mining director that are relevant to the success of the project.
Qualifications required
• Hold a university degree in mining engineering or other relevant experience;
• Be a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) (an asset);
• Have a minimum of (15) years of experience in the mining industry including (8) years of experience in a management position;
• Experience working with First Nations (an asset);
• Bilingualism (French and English). Will be required to communicate with English-speaking consultants, suppliers and staff.
Technical skills
• Knowledge of the regulations governing mining activities;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Excel, Outlook, etc.).
Basic skills
• Ability to stand out in a strategic advisory role to managers and senior management;
• Versatile, flexible and a team player;
• Excellent communication and listening skills;
• Strong level of positive leadership;
• Good organizational skills and ability to handle several files simultaneously;
