Reports to: Brand Director | Location: Gillette, WY (On-site) | Full-time

Job Overview

Western Welding Academy is on a mission to build a better generation of blue-collar craftsmen. We forge the next generation of skilled welders through an unwavering commitment to work ethic, accountability, and integrity — focusing on student outcomes and hands-on training in a real-world environment that prepares them to exceed the demands of the industry.

We believe in this mission because blue-collar tradespeople are the backbone of America. This country was built by skilled workers, and yet for too long we've pushed every young person toward college and left the trades underappreciated. Now manufacturing is returning to American soil and the demand for welders is skyrocketing, while the skilled workforce to meet it doesn't exist. We're filling that gap, one welder at a time, because the future of this country depends on the hands of those willing to build it.

Important Eligibility Requirement

Applicants must already be legally authorized to work in the United States. Western Welding Academy does not sponsor work visas or offer employment-based immigration support.

Why Join Western Welding Academy?

In most video jobs, you're just the person who cuts whatever somebody else hands you. It goes into a folder, and you never find out whether it did anything.

This one is different. Over 24 weeks and 960 hours, we take people with no welding experience at all and turn them into certified pipe welders with a career in front of them. That happens in our shop every single day — the first day nerves, the first arc struck, the moment somebody passes a test they were sure they'd fail, the day they graduate and go to work.

You'll own the camera, the edit bay, and our podcast. Not one of the three — all of it. Most companies split this into separate jobs and lose everything in the handoffs. We'd rather have one person who can spot the moment, capture it, cut it, and put it in front of the right person.

You'll report to our Brand Director and work as part of a marketing team that's growing fast. You'll have real say in how our brand shows up in the world, and when something you created brings in a student who changes their life, you'll be able to point at it.

Here's what's in it for you: Your pay is only part of the picture. As a full-time team member, here's the real value of working at Western Welding Academy:

    • Free medical option. Our Cigna HDHP plan is 100% company-paid for you and your family — $0 premium out of your paycheck. It's a high-deductible plan ($4,000 individual / $8,000 family) paired with an HSA.
    • Money toward your health costs. Choose the HDHP and we add $1,000 a year to your Health Savings Account.
    • Company-paid life insurance. $75,000 in coverage at no cost to you.
    • 401(k) with a match. We match up to 3.5% of your pay to help you build for the future.
  • Dental and vision coverage through Principal at a low monthly cost.
    • Unlimited PTO from your very first day. No accrual, no waiting period — just plan ahead with your manager.
  • Gear that doesn't fight you. A real equipment and software budget, and modern AI-assisted editing tools so you spend your time creating instead of scrubbing.
    • A mission that matters. Your work helps put people into life-changing careers and helps rebuild America's skilled workforce, one welder at a time.
What You'll Do

As our Videographer, Video Editor & Podcast Producer, you'll:

  • Capture what's already happening. Be on the shop floor daily. Our best content isn't manufactured, it's captured — students striking their first arc, passing their first certification test, graduating and heading to the field.
  • Follow students across their entire journey. We're building long-form story content that follows the same student from their first phone call through all four phases to their first job. Nobody in our industry is doing this. You'd be the one who does.
  • Shoot and edit at volume. Run efficient batch production days that generate dozens of usable assets, not one polished video that takes three weeks. We're scaling toward a serious daily publishing cadence and you'll be at the center of it.
  • Run our podcast end to end. Book and prep guests, run the room, record, edit, and slice every episode into short-form clips that live across every platform. One good conversation should produce a month of content.
  • Build the brand. Welding is a small world and reputation travels. Help make Western Welding Academy a name that instructors, employers and prospective students already know before they ever talk to us.
  • Use modern tools to move faster.
  • Own the quality bar. Brand standards, captions, pacing, hooks. If it goes out, it's right.
  • Work off data, not guesswork. You'll see what's performing and adjust. We measure content on whether it brings in the right students — not on view counts.
What We're Looking For
    • You shoot and you edit, at a professional standard. Both, not one.
    • A reel or portfolio. This matters to us far more than your resume.
    • Comfortable running your own shoots — lighting, audio, framing — without a crew.
  • Fast. We care more about how much good work you deliver than how perfect any single piece is.

  • Willing to work on an active shop floor. Heat, sparks, noise, steel-toe boots. This is not a desk job.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, and the judgment to work unsupervised.
  • Strong desire to be part of a team building a better generation.

What will make you stand out:

  • You've produced a podcast or interview show — booked guests, run the room, cut episodes into clips that performed.
  • You've grown a brand, channel, or creator account and can point at the numbers.
  • You're comfortable with audio — mics, levels, treating a room, cleaning up a track.
  • You understand short-form platforms natively and why some things perform and others don't.
  • You've used AI tools in your workflow and you're not precious about it.
  • You've filmed real people in real environments, not just studio setups.

Physical Requirements
  • Able to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Willing to work 10-hour shifts, 5 days a week, with flexibility for overtime and occasional evenings/weekends around student milestones and events.
  • Ability to travel between Western Welding Academy properties in Gillette, WY.
  • Able to work safely in an active welding environment (PPE provided and required).

How to Apply

Don't just hit Apply and send a resume. Here's exactly what to do:

  1. Click Apply and attach your resume.
  2. Include a link to your reel or portfolio — Google Drive, Vimeo, YouTube, personal site. We don't care where it lives, we just need to see the work.
  3. Attach one 60-second video that you shot AND edited yourself. Anything at all. We want to see both halves of this job in one piece.
  4. Answer one question in a few sentences: what's the last thing you made that actually got a result, and how did you know?

Applications that include the 60-second video go to the top of the pile. Applications without a reel won't be reviewed. We review weekly and reply either way."
