Reporting to the Mobile Equipment Superintendent, the Mechanical Supervisor will be responsible for participating in and directing maintenance work on mobile equipment and certain fixed equipment. He or she will ensure the effective management of maintenance to maximize equipment performance.  Based at the Windfall site, located in the Northern Quebec region, the supervisor will work on a schedule of 15 days on followed by 13 days off (day and night shifts).  

Duties and responsibilities                

•Perform repairs on surface and underground equipment;

•Participate in troubleshooting to improve equipment and maintenance operations;

•Follow up on repairs to mobile equipment and certain fixed equipment;

•Assist in optimizing preventive maintenance schedules based on equipment availability and validate the effectiveness of modifications and maintenance performed;

•Ensure maximum availability of the mobile equipment fleet while adhering to budgets set by management;

•Facilitate communication between departments and equipment suppliers;

•Participate in daily pre-shift meetings;

•Participate in various project-related meetings (clients, suppliers, contractors);

•Document various instructions (installation, troubleshooting, etc.);

•Participate in the installation of new equipment and its integration into the preventive maintenance plan;

•Ensure the prevention and safety of various mobile equipment and enforce guidelines and procedures;

•Diagnose technical issues and make necessary recommendations;

•Supervise subcontractors’ work related to technical maintenance;

•Support the maintenance planner in the operation, management, and improvement of the preventive maintenance program;

•Comply at all times with occupational health and safety and environmental policies and rules, and ensure that staff adhere to these rules;

•Perform any other duties related to the position of mechanical supervisor that are relevant to the success of the project.


Required qualifications

•Hold a college diploma (DEC) in mechanics or an equivalent technical degree, or a vocational diploma (DEP) in mechanics or electromechanics, or have relevant experience in mechanics (5–10 years of experience);

•Experience supervising mobile mechanics (minimum of 5 years of experience);

•Bilingualism (will need to communicate with English-speaking workers) (an asset).

•Hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license;

•Hold an explosives license;

•Have successfully completed mining modules 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7.


Technical skills

•Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Excel, Outlook, etc.);

•Understanding of continuous improvement and project management principles;

•Knowledge of mining equipment technology;

•Ability to apply maintenance and planning techniques;

•Ability to use various maintenance-related software, e.g., SAP (a plus).
