Summer Program Support Intern (July 8 - August 30)

Vancouver, BC Temporary $27.05/hour

FIRST UNITED is seeking applications for the position of: Summer Program Support Intern

POSITION OVERVIEW: The summer program support intern will work with FIRST UNITED staff to provide support to members of the Downtown Eastside community, many of whom are struggling to live with a wide range of challenges such as addiction, mental health issues, extreme poverty, and homelessness. The hourly wage is $27.05. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work at the community help desk by; monitoring the vestibule for safety, answering phone/checking messages, making community referrals, handing out harm reduction supplies/sundries and assisting donors/donations.
  • Moving donations and supplies between the Powell storage / shelter and community help desk
  • Tracking and managing program data
  • Tasks, including and not limited to, making harm reduction kits, organizing, cleaning/sanitizing, stocking, opening and closing of community help desk
  • Operate the community mail program, and ensure all outgoing mail is processed and mailed out daily
  • Work with volunteers, kitchen, and program staff to ensure successful lunch service delivery to the DTES community at the food truck
  • Work alongside ministry and program staff to deliver programs at ministry space

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Experience working with vulnerable and/or marginalized individuals
  • Ability to pass a criminal record check (required)
  • Ability to be welcoming while maintaining a professional demeanor

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completed some post-secondary education in a related area (social work, counselling, psychology, sociology, social services, social sciences, criminology etc.)
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Valid Level 1 First Aid Certificate an asset. Driver's license and access to a vehicle an asset
  • Must be 20-30 years old
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and legally entitled to work in BC. 

HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours a week; 8:30am - 4pm; Monday - Friday; Start Date: July 7 - August 29.

PAY RATE: $27.05 per hour
