Primary Duties:

                Lifeguard and scan the different zones around the lap pool.

                Enforce rules and stop unsafe behavior.

                Respond to emergencies when persons in the water are hurt or in distress, using the proper Red Cross methods taught in preliminary training class and in-house job trainings.

                Report to Manager on elements of the environment that may be unsafe for the swimmers in a specific zone: broken ladder, blind spots formed by a glare or the chair’s placement, glass, etc.

                Regulate the use of the Junior Pool by allowing only Adults, Directly Supervised Children, and Teens over 14.

                Secondary Duties

                Perform first aid and primary assessments on persons who are injured or have fallen ill.

                Respond to all emergency scenarios that require lifeguard assistance including: Water Extractions, CPR/AED, Lockerroom accidents, and Crown Control.

                Understanding the facility EAP, and executing by protocol during emergency situations.

                Test and Record Chemicals when the pool is empty.

                Perform nightly closing duties including trash collection, tidying the locker rooms, turning on fans, and turning off lights.

                Respond to unsafe elements and maintain facility cleanliness when the pool is empty or a guard supervisor/manager relieves you:

-          Maintaining clean and dry locker rooms to avoid slips and falls and the transmission of infectious bacteria and diseases

-          Keeping the pool free of trash and debris to ensure the pool is circulating freely

-          Deploying Umbrellas and Tents to provide shade and relief from the sun, while collapsing umbrellas and tents at times of high winds to avoid airborne equipment striking the patrons.

-          Provide fresh stock of soap and paper products in the locker rooms when needed.

Requirements:

Must be at least 18 years old to work as a lifeguard. Must be a proficient swimmer

Most times the indoor guard works alone, so lifeguard must be able to follow orders from supervisors with integrity as supervisors are often off site. Must be able to work independently, responsible for the safety of all swimmers entering the pool deck.

Lifeguard is responsible for keeping their Lifeguard Certificate Current along with keeping their skills sharp by attending in-service job training regularly.

Lifeguard uniform is provided, so lifeguards are expected to arrive in uniform with their Hat, Whistle, Guard Suit, along with personal water bottle and sun glasses

Lifeguard is expected to work 4 hours shifts without a break. Lifeguard may not leave the deck until their replacement arrives or a guard supervisor/manager gives them relief.

Lifeguard is expected to have good time management skills. Showing up to work on time to relieve the guard before them.
