Reporting to the Chief Metallurgist, the Process Control Specialist will be involved in the design, implementation, commissioning, and optimization of process control systems for the facilities. He/she will act as a technical expert within the operations group for instrumentation, automation, advanced control, and ore processing simulation to ensure the reliability, performance, and safety of control systems, while supporting the transition to operations. 

Duties and responsibilities 

  • Act as a representative of the Company; 
  • Participate in the design of process control systems for mining facilities; 
  • Collaborate with process, electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical engineering teams during the design and construction phases; 
  • Ensure the integration of field equipment into control systems; 
  • Participate in technical reviews and risk analyses, and ensure compliance with applicable standards; 
  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to instrumentation and process control; 
  • Monitor and optimize control loops and automation strategies to improve stability and performance; 
  • Select, implement, and maintain advanced process control systems and simulation/digital twin tools while providing user support 
  • Document changes and ensure that P&IDs and control configurations are kept up to date; 
  • Train and support operations and maintenance teams during the transition to operation; 
  • Work closely with various internal and external stakeholders; 
  • Serve as a leader in safety, environment, and community relations to help achieve the highest standards; 
  • Comply at all times with health, safety, and environmental policies and rules, and ensure that all staff adhere to these rules; 
  • Perform any other tasks related to the position of process control engineer that are relevant to the success of the project. 

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (chemical, electrical, or automation); 
  • Membership in the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ); 
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience; 
  • Experience in instrumentation, process control, and simulation, ideally in an industrial or mining setting;  
  • Experience in engineering projects or the commissioning of industrial facilities (an asset); 
  • Bilingualism (French and English) (will be required to communicate with English-speaking consultants and suppliers); 
  • Must hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license.

Technical skills

  • Proficiency in PID control 
  • Advanced control strategies (MCP, soft sensors, dynamic models) 
  • Analysis of Historian data, trends, oscillations, and variability diagnostics 
  • Possess a solid understanding of the laws and regulations applicable to mining exploration and production sites; 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Excel, Outlook, etc.); 
  • Good understanding of standard communication protocols (OPC UA, Profibus, etc.) 
  • Experience with Honeywell control systems and the Aveva (PI) application ecosystem 
  • Familiarity with various processes according to industry standards
