Retail District Manager
Job Title: Retail District Manager Reports To: Director of Retail Operations

Essential Functions:
The Retail District Manager is responsible for leading, overseeing, and improving the general operations of multiple assigned retail stores. This role includes hiring, training, coaching, and developing store management teams to improve both individual and organizational performance, while ensuring stores meet or exceed financial goals and company standards related to performance, appearance, operations, and other key metrics.
- To recruit, interview, and hire store management staff to ensure all locations are productively and effectively staffed at all times.
- To supervise, train, coach, and develop store management staff to perform their duties at high levels.
- To hold staff accountable and take any necessary and immediate corrective actions to ensure adherence to goals, policies, procedures, and direction.
- To effectively manage payroll and non-payroll expenses within budgetary guidelines, while driving revenue to maximize net income.
- To supervise and motivate store management to ensure production guidelines are consistently met, and to lead by example when needed.
- To provide ongoing coaching and development for all levels of staff and ensure store management meets required training schedules.
- To read, interpret, distribute, and take appropriate and timely action on financial, labor, and inventory reports.
- To ensure proper rotation of store merchandise through consistent training in production guidelines and expectations.
- To ensure all donated and purchased goods are processed from the receiving door to the sales floor in an efficient and timely manner across all locations.
- To monitor the purchased goods program, including ordering, stocking, merchandising, inventory management, and shrink control.
- To act as a positive role model for all employees, trainees, and customers in all aspects of professional performance.
- To assist in the opening of new stores, including stocking, merchandising, staffing, and processing donations.
- To continuously develop store management staff to improve overall performance and leadership capability.
- To work collaboratively with store management teams to ensure financial goals are met and adjustments are made in a timely manner.
- To observe and enforce all personnel and safety policies and procedures, ensuring full compliance by store employees.
- To conduct regular store visits to maintain high standards in cleanliness, merchandising, customer service, and financial performance.
- In the absence of a Store Manager at any assigned location, the District Manager is responsible for stepping in to oversee and operate the store, ensuring continuity of operations, staffing, compliance, and performance standards until the position is filled.
- This position is classified as exempt and requires a high level of professional commitment and accountability. The role demands flexibility in work schedule, including extended hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to meet business needs, operational demands, and organizational objectives.
Skills and Abilities:
- Must be able to effectively lead, motivate, coach, develop, and train others to perform their respective duties at higher levels.
- Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with, and among, store personnel while motivating each to put forth their best effort.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate clearly in English.
- Must be able to work flexible hours on short notice, including nights and weekends, and occasionally extended hours as required by business needs.
- Must provide own transportation.
- Must possess excellent time management skills and the ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently.
- Must be able to engage in prolonged standing and walking, as well as frequent bending, stooping, and stretching.
- Must be able to work independently and take direction with minimal supervision.
- Must have knowledge of retail merchandising best practices across multiple product categories.
- Must have knowledge of the value of clothing, household items, furniture, books, shoes, and other commodities.
- Must exhibit sound judgment and possess strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Must be able to interact professionally and productively with a diverse group of individuals.
- Must be able to effectively represent Goodwill and communicate the organization’s mission to the public.
Requirements:
1. Associate degree in business management or a related field highly preferred and at least five years multi-unit supervisory experience in the retail industry.
2. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
3. Must be able to be insurable through the Company’s insurance carrier.
4. Must be proficient in MS Office including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Working Conditions:
Frequent physical exertion, exposure to unfit donated goods, materials and frequent travel throughout assigned territory. The ability to tolerate frequent periods of high stress, manage a heavy workload and multiple priorities.
