RESEARCH AND DATA MANAGEMENT COORDINATOR

Responsible for the evaluation of research proposals from researchers, governments, research institutions, and others to ensure the protection of Gwich’in rights and interests, adherence to appropriate privacy and confidentiality policies, monitoring compliance with research and data.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Core Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

·         Review research applications from proponents, including universities, researchers, governments, and industry proponents.

·         Build, manage, and utilize database programs, manage data, and run data queries. Execute secure and effective data procedures.

·         Maintain the integrity of data, which may contain confidential information. Ensure adherence to legal standards and regulations.

·         Transcribe data from recordings or written notes into a database.

·         Create reports by compiling data from multiple sources (such as databases, surveys, field interviews, etc.).

·         Research to gather information required by GTC Leadership Team and Managers.  

·         Organize data by creating spreadsheets or other visual aids that make it easier to analyze information. Develop various communication tools to explain data trends and insights, including presentations, visual guides, and reports.

·         Review data for accuracy and identify any gaps in information before sharing results with others.

·         Establish relationships with partners and clients and collaborate with them to understand their needs and suggest solutions.

·         Collaborate with other team members, technical specialists, project managers, partners, advisors, and analysts.

·         Oversee the development of a comprehensive cabin management system.

·         Support the development of a climate change field survey and climate change database.

·         Work collaboratively with the Department of Culture and Heritage.

·         Ensure that records are maintained securely and confidentially for legal, fiscal, operational, and historical purposes.

Specifically, an ability to communicate complex information simply and clearly to non-technical audiences              at times.

 

·         Organization – strong organizational, analytical and time management skills along with an ability to set priorities and manage complex,                    multiple and long-term tasks. Excellent attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in all documentation and all records are maintained securely              for legal, fiscal, operational and historical purposes.

·         Problem Solving – ability to identify and evaluate alternatives, to think creatively and to recommend innovative solutions. 

·         Confidentiality – maintenance of confidentiality and handling of sensitive information related to intellectual property.

·         Logistics – ability to work in a cross-cultural environment and work flexible hours. Some work on evenings and weekends may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

       The qualifications required for this position include:

·         At least three (3) years of experience as a research and data experience including data collection, management and coordination;

·         Proficient in a Microsoft Office operating environment (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Note), Email, Database application and Internet; and,

·         Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

      The qualifications desired for this position also include:

·         An undergraduate degree in computer science, information technology, computer engineering or a related discipline which typically includes courses in                 computer science, database management, software development or mathematics;

·         Prior experience using geographic data in a wide range of applications. Proficiency in mapping software, such as GIS;

·         Fluency in the Gwich’in language; and,

·         Experience in in the public or Indigenous sectors, ideally in a cross-cultural setting and northern context.

COMPENSATION

A competitive compensation plan will accompany the successful candidate including a comprehensive benefit plan.

Preference may be given to candidates who are Gwich'in Participants and have experience working in the non-profit or public sectors or in an Indigenous Government/Organization, preferably in a northern context.
