The primary responsibility of a Patrol Deputy is to protect life and property and enforce laws and ordinances on behalf of the citizens. Duties include patrolling assigned geographical areas, responding to crimes in progress, investigation of crimes and motor vehicle accidents, transporting prisoners, testifying in court, and resolving juvenile, neighborhood and domestic complaints. Additional duties include serving warrants, crisis intervention, interviewing persons with complaints, as well as witnesses, investigating natural and unnatural deaths and thorough documentation of activities by report writing.

Officers are expected to use a reasonable amount of force necessary to carry out their duties and are required to handle a variety of potentially volatile and dangerous situations in a calm, confident and effective manner.

Required Qualifications

Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of application with a high school diploma or equivalent GED certification or equivalent and possess a valid driver’s license. Must be a Certified Peace Office recognized by the State of Louisiana.

Preferred Qualifications

Two years working experience in law enforcement

Miscellaneous Information

This position requires the physical dexterity needed to type in a proficient manner. Must possess the skills necessary to safely operate a motor vehicle. Must have effective written and verbal communication skills and have the ability to read and interpret various documents. Must be able to observe and recall details from interactions. Must be able to analyze situations quickly and objectively. Must possess the ability to learn new skills and stay current with changes.

Requires physical agility and strength to perform the essential functions of the job. The ability to run, walk, jump, sit, bend, climb, crawl, reach, pull, twist, etc. is required. Must have clear vision and hand-eye coordination, including the ability to grip with the fingers and hands.

Salary / Benefits

The salary for this position is determined by the agency salary table.

Postsecondary education and Law enforcement experience will be taken under consideration in respect to compensation.
