Reports To: Manager, LawMatters & Local Libraries


Location: Onsite; Fort St. John, BC 


Compensation: $27.85 per hour


Role Type: Permanent, part-time (one regular 6-hour shift per week, preferably on Mondays or Tuesdays)

We are seeking a Local Library Assistant to provide front-line service and support access to legal information within the local courthouse library in Fort St. John.

About the Opportunity


The Local Library Assistant plays an important role as the primary CLBC presence in local courthouse libraries that operate without an onsite Librarian. This role helps ensure that services are accessible, welcoming, and responsive to community needs.


Working independently, the Local Library Assistant supports clients by providing basic legal information assistance, responding to inquiries, and referring more complex questions to Librarians or appropriate resources. The role also includes maintaining the library space and ensuring it is safe, organized, and accessible.


The work requires strong judgment, reliability, and a service focused approach. Through this work, the role contributes to consistent access to legal information and a positive experience for clients and community partners.

 What You’ll Be Doing


Provide front-line service to clients in person or by phone 

Greet clients and respond to basic legal information inquiries 

Triage questions and refer clients to Librarians or other services as appropriate 

Maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming library environment 

Manage day-to-day operations of the library space independently 

Monitor and escalate facilities, equipment, or security issues as needed 

Build respectful relationships with courthouse staff and community users 

Communicate with colleagues to support continuity of service

Clients are greeted promptly and experience respectful, welcoming service 

Inquiries are triaged accurately and referred appropriately 

Library spaces are safe, organized, and well maintained

What You’ll Bring (or Need)


High school diploma 

Strong customer service and communication skills 

Comfort using digital tools and basic office technology 

Ability to work independently and manage priorities 

Sound judgment and professionalism in a public-facing environment 

Ability to maintain confidentiality 

Strong analytical thinking and ability to identify when to escalate issues 

Reliable, approachable, and service-oriented approach
