Reports To: Residential Solar Superintendent

 

Job Summary

The Lead Electrician is the on-site electrical authority for residential solar PV and energy storage installations. Working alongside one apprentice, this role is responsible for executing the full electrical scope of each project — from service panel work and conduit runs through inverter commissioning and final inspection — while ensuring compliance with TDLR, NEC, local AHJ, and utility requirements. The Lead Electrician drives workmanship quality, apprentice development, and inspection success on every job site.

 

Field Partnership & Mentorship

      Work directly alongside one apprentice electrician on all residential solar installations

      Guide and train the apprentice in proper electrical practices, safety, and code compliance

      Set the standard for workmanship and professionalism on the job site

      Communicate job status, material needs, and quality issues to the Superintendent

 

Electrical Oversight & Compliance

      Execute all electrical work in compliance with TDLR, NEC, local AHJ, and utility interconnection requirements

      Read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, and permit-ready plan sets

      Install, terminate, and commission inverters, AC/DC disconnects, service panel upgrades, rapid shutdown systems, and battery energy storage systems

      Apply strong working knowledge of NEC Articles 690, 705, 706, 230, 240, 250, and 310

      Act as the on-site escalation point for electrical issues and inspector questions

 

Operations & Quality Control

      Manage the electrical scope from rough-in through final inspection

      Attend and lead electrical inspections; resolve AHJ findings on the spot

      Conduct pre-installation site assessments to identify panel upgrade needs, conduit routing, and code issues

      Follow company SOPs, installation checklists, and commissioning standards

      Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site at all times

 

Permitting & Inspection

      Coordinate with the permitting team to ensure accurate electrical documentation for AHJ submittal

      Prepare and review job-specific electrical paperwork prior to inspection

      Maintain a high first-pass inspection rate across assigned projects

      Stay current on local AHJ requirements across Texas service territories

 

Safety & Compliance

      Enforce OSHA and company safety standards on every job site

      Participate in safety training and promptly report incidents or near-misses

      Maintain active TDLR Journeyman Electrician license and meet continuing education requirements

      Ensure crew members operate safely and within their license scope

 

Required Qualifications

      Active Texas Journeyman Electrician License (TDLR)

      2+ years of residential solar PV installation experience

      Strong NEC knowledge (690, 705, 706, 230, 240, 250, 310)

      Experience pulling permits and passing inspections with Texas AHJs

      Ability to work effectively in a two-person team alongside an apprentice

      Valid Texas driver’s license

 

Preferred Qualifications

      Battery storage experience (SolarEdge preferred)

      NABCEP PV Installation Professional or Associate certification

      Familiarity with Texas utility interconnection processes (Oncor, AEP, CenterPoint, etc.)

      OSHA 30 certification
