POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sheridan County YMCA is seeking a dependable and organized Preschool Cook to prepare nutritious meals and snacks for children in our preschool and childcare programs. This position plays an important role in supporting the health, growth, and development of children by creating healthy meals in a safe, clean, and welcoming environment. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys cooking, working independently, and making a positive impact on children's lives. The position offers a consistent daytime schedule with no evenings or weekends.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. At least 18 years of age.

  2. Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities.

  3. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  4. Ability to meet physical demands of the position.

  5. Alarm/Emergency Procedures training within 90 days of hire and annually thereafter.

  6. CPR, First Aid and Child Abuse Prevention training within 90 days of hire and biannually thereafter.

  7. ServSafe certification (or ability to obtain certification within an established timeframe). 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Preschool Cook is expected to fulfill the following functions:

  1. Assist the Childcare Director to plan nutritious menus for preschool and childcare programs and maintain menu records as required.

  2. Prepare, serve and clean up  fresh and nutritious breakfasts, lunches, and snacks daily in a timely manner to support established childcare schedules.

  3. Follow all safety guidelines and approved methods for food preparation, cooking, cooling, thawing, serving, and storing food in accordance with Wyoming Department of Health and regulations and standards..

  4. Adhere to all sanitation and hygiene standards, including proper handwashing, food handling, cleaning, and personal hygiene practices. 

  5. Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and sanitary kitchen at all times in accordance with Wyoming Department of Health regulations and standards.

  6. Ensure the kitchen remains inspection-ready at all times by routinely sweeping, mopping, sanitizing work surfaces, cleaning appliances, organizing storage areas, and maintaining food storage requirements.

  7. Clean and sanitize food preparation, serving, and dining areas following meal service.

  8. Maintain accurate records related to food purchasing, inventory, menus, and program requirements.

  9. Assist with food preparation for special YMCA functions, staff meetings, trainings, and events as assigned


In addition to the essential duties and responsibilities, Preschool Cook will:

  • Pursue/participate in ongoing training

  • Participate in the annual campaign by giving, campaigning or both

  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.

  • Attend required abuse risk management training.

  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.

  • Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.

  • Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.


WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
