Reporting to the Mining Area Manager, the Mining Project Engineer - Underground Infrastructure is responsible for the detailed engineering, procurement package management, and cost control of underground primary infrastructure for the Windfall Underground Gold Project. The position is based at the Montréal office on a 5/2 schedule, with frequent site visits during the detailed engineering and construction phases. Temporary position - 3 years.

Duties and responsibilities                

•Prepare, or have prepared, detailed engineering for the construction of underground primary infrastructure; 

•In collaboration with the Procurement Department and other stakeholders, initiate and/or lead the detailed engineering tendering process for the construction of underground primary infrastructure; 

•Participate in the approval of various detailed engineering studies related to infrastructure; 

•Provide technical support in the selection of contractors for the underground infrastructure construction phase; 

•Develop, or have developed, detailed plans for the execution of infrastructure construction work; 

•Establish and monitor schedules and costs for each project during the detailed engineering phase; 

•Manage changes to scope, schedule, and costs related to detailed engineering for infrastructure construction projects; 

•Perform risk management activities during the design phase to minimize project related risks; 

•Monitor project performance and costs associated with detailed engineering; 

•Facilitate and lead project progress meetings; 

•Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety standards and accident prevention requirements, and implement corrective measures as required; 

•Comply at all times with occupational health and safety and environmental policies and regulations, and ensure adherence by personnel; 

•Ensure that detailed engineering complies with the guidelines established during the design phase; 

•Perform any other related duties associated with the Mining Project Engineer - Underground Infrastructure role that contribute to the successful completion of the project.


Required qualifications

•Hold a university degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Mining Engineering; 

•Be a member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ); 

•Have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in the mining industry, including at least three (3) years in underground construction and construction project management; 

•Demonstrate experience in detailed project engineering;

•Have experience managing tendering and bidding processes; 

•Demonstrate experience in project management; 

•Experience working with First Nations communities (asset); 

•Hold a valid Class 5 driver’s licence.


Technical skills

•Demonstrate knowledge of the various processes in accordance with industry standards; 

•Be proficient in project management software (MS Project, Primavera, AutoCAD et/ou Autodesk Inventor, etc.); 

•Be proficient with Microsoft Office applications; 

•Possess a solid understanding of laws and regulations applicable to mining sites.


Basic skills

•Demonstrate rigor and discipline in occupational health and safety; 

•Demonstrate excellent proficiency in French and a good working knowledge of English; 

•Be an excellent communicator; 

•Be a strong team player, demonstrating tact and political acumen; 

•Be flexible and open to change and constructive feedback; 

•Demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively identify priorities; 

•Be autonomous, show initiative, and be able to manage multiple assignments simultaneously; 

•Demonstrate rigor and uphold high standards of ethics and integrity.
