Hiring Salary: $1,342.17 - $1,656.55/week,
depending on qualifications, shift assignment and in accordance with
the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Schedule: Four 10-hour Days and Rotating 24-hour shifts available.
Candidates who are near completion of a Paramedic program are encouraged to apply.
Within twelve (12) months of hire, the Firefighter/Paramedic shall make their principal place of residence that is within thirty (30) miles boundary-to-boundary of the Town of Hopkinton and their town.
The Firefighter/Paramedic is a dual-role member of the department having both fire suppression and emergency medical care responsibilities. Depending on the nature of the incident, these personnel provide extrication and rescue, fire suppression or hazard control, and administer emergency medical care.
This position is technical in nature and requires the ability to interact with patients, assess and treat medical emergencies, and follow treatment protocols properly documenting findings and events on medical records. Work is usually carried out under stressful conditions with potential for contagious diseases and environments to be present, along with chemical and violence hazards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training, Special Licensure/Certification Requirements:
- Valid CPR card
- Valid motor vehicle operator's license
- Valid Massachusetts EMT-Paramedic certification preferred
- Valid Advanced Care Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred
- Valid Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification preferred
- Graduation from an accredited FF I/II program preferred
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
- Knowledge of rules and regulations governing the operation of the fire department.
- Knowledge of State Dept. of Office of Emergency Medical Services treatment protocols.
- Knowledge of state, federal, and local laws relevant to the activities of the fire department.
- Knowledge of hydraulics as applied to firefighting, building construction, related electrical codes, and locations of hazardous occupancies in the town.
- Knowledge of the operation of all fire apparatus, ambulance, and rescue equipment.
- Working knowledge of water main locations, size, and operation as applied to firefighting activities.
- Ability and strength to perform prolonged and arduous work under adverse conditions.
- Ability to react quickly and remain calm under duress and strain.
- Mechanical aptitude preferred.
