Compensation

During in-house orientation and training: $25.78 per hour
Field Rescue Technician assignments: $29.01 per hour
Field Safety Technician assignments: $27.90 per hour
All wage rates are subject to adjustment in accordance with the applicable Collective Agreement.

About the Role

Sentry Fire Protection Services is seeking motivated and safety-focused Safety Field Technicians to join our Safety Division. This role supports high-risk industrial environments by conducting safety assessments, performing safety testing, monitoring air quality, performing safety watch, bottle watch and spark watch duties, and maintaining site-specific safety compliance.

Successful candidates will help identify hazards, support preventative measures, maintain accurate health and safety documentation, and promote safe work practices at customer sites. Shift roles may vary based on operational needs, including Field Rescue Technician and Field Safety Technician assignments.

Key Responsibilities

·         Conduct safety assessments and assist with identifying workplace hazards.

·         Perform safety testing and monitor air quality as required.

·         Provide safety watch, bottle watch, spark watch, confined space monitoring, and related site safety support.

·         Maintain site-specific safety compliance and support safe work practices in high-risk environments.

·         Complete required documentation, including pre-job forms, permits, inspections, reports, and rescue plans.

·         Monitor job site conditions and equipment resources and report observations or recommendations to a supervisor.

·         Maintain rescue, fall protection, emergency response, and safety-related equipment.

·         Participate in emergency response and rescue operations when required and within training limits.

·         Provide First Aid and CPR/AED assistance during emergency situations, as needed.

·         Support safety orientations, toolbox talks, training, emergency drills, and rescue readiness activities.

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in industrial safety, emergency response, technical rescue, firefighting, confined space operations, or a related field.
• Experience in industrial, manufacturing, construction, utility, or commercial environments is considered an asset.

Required Certifications

• Standard First Aid & CPR/AED.
• Fall Protection.
• Confined Space Entry & Monitor.
• WHMIS.
• Valid Class G Driver's Licence with a satisfactory driving record.
• Ability to obtain client-required site orientations, certifications, and security clearances.

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of Ontario health and safety legislation and safe work practices.
• Strong hazard recognition and situational awareness.
• Ability to stay calm and effective during emergencies.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work independently and in safety-sensitive environments.
• Strong documentation and reporting abilities.

Conditions of Employment

·         Successful completion of all required training.

·         Maintenance of all required certifications.

·         Proof of eligibility to work in Canada.

·         Provision of a satisfactory criminal record check.

·         Successful completion of all client, security, and site access requirements.

·         Completion of all pre-employment onboarding requirements.

·         Ability to become and remain a member in good standing of Carpenters Local 1256, in accordance with the applicable Collective Agreement.

New employees are subject to a probationary period of forty-five (45) days worked and acceptance into union membership, in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates with:

• Technical Rope Rescue Technician certification.
• Confined Space Rescue Technician certification.
• Incident Command System (ICS) training.
• NCSO, CSO, CRSP, or similar safety designation.
• NFPA 1006 technical rescue training.
• Industrial firefighting experience.
• Experience supporting industrial shutdowns, maintenance projects, or turnarounds.

Working Conditions

This position may involve fluctuating schedules, shift duration, and weekly hours based on customer requirements, operational needs, site schedules, maintenance activities, shutdowns, turnarounds, and available work. The Collective Agreement does not guarantee any minimum number of hours of work.

• Industrial and construction environments.
• Working at heights and in confined spaces.
• Day shifts, night shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call assignments.
• Exposure to varying weather conditions and active work sites.
• Lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 lbs or more.
• Emergency response situations requiring rapid decision-making and physical activity.

Required PPE may include safety footwear, hard hat, eye protection, hearing protection, fall protection equipment, respiratory protection, rescue harnesses, and high-visibility clothing.

Training, Onboarding & Union Requirements

·         Employer-required in-house orientation and training will be provided by Sentry Fire Protection Services.

·         Additional required training may be completed through the union hall.

·         Time spent attending employer-required in-house training will be paid in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

·         Course fees for training conducted and organized through the union hall will be covered where applicable.

·         Continued employment is subject to available work, operational requirements, required certifications and qualifications, company policies, client requirements, site rules, and the terms and conditions of the Collective Agreement.

Overtime, Premiums & Pay

·         Overtime and premium pay will be administered in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

·         Hours worked beyond eight (8) hours in a day, Monday through Friday, are currently paid at one and one-half (1.5x) times the applicable hourly rate.

·         All hours worked on Saturdays are currently paid at one and one-half (1.5x) times the applicable hourly rate.

·         All hours worked on Sundays and recognized statutory holidays are currently paid at double time (2x) the applicable hourly rate.

·         Employees working between 6:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. are currently eligible for a night shift premium of $2.00 per hour worked.

·         Vacation pay and holiday pay are paid in accordance with the Collective Agreement and applicable legislation.
