Parks & People works to sustain and improve Baltimore’s parks and open spaces through public-private partnerships. Since 1984, P&P has a history of making investments in green park projects to revitalize neighborhoods and is a major provider of programs to allow children, youth and adults to learn, grow, and explore their natural environment. Our vision is to ensure that everyone in Baltimore is connected to nature, their community and each other through vibrant parks and green spaces.

The Environmental Education Manager is responsible for coordinating, organizing, and delivering Parks & People’s environmental education and service-learning programs including Branches school day programs and SuperKids Camp Environmental Education Enrichment. The Manager supervises environmental education staff, team leaders and interns.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Manage Environmental Education & Workforce Development Programs
    a. Select and develop curriculum to deliver high quality outdoor and environmental education programs for elementary, middle and high school age youth.
    b. Develop a workforce development program, that includes college & career readiness, for high school age youth, that involves green trade and career tracks.
    c. Create recruitment timelines and program schedules.
    d. Ensure selected programs and curricula are aligned with the organization’s strategic plan.
    e. Order and organize educational supplies and equipment.
     f. Ensure curriculum is being implemented in accordance with program plan; complete program content updates where necessary.
    g. Collect and organize all assessment data. Develop pre and post tests and other evaluation measures.
    h. Assist Grants Manager with all program related reports.
     i. Work in conjunction with Director of Youth Programs for oversight of program budgets.

2. Execute Program Delivery
    a. Develop and maintain relationships with local school district teachers and school administration, organizations and businesses needed for recruitment, student development and program delivery.
    b. Provide hands on instruction for all programs.
    c. Supervise staff to deliver interactive inquiry-based and hands-on lessons, field investigations and activities to Baltimore City youth.

3. Staff Oversight
    a. Interview, hire, train and assess Environmental Educators, Branches Team Leaders and interns.
    b. Supervise the Enrichment Site Coordinator, Environmental Educators, Team Leaders and Interns.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
    • B.A. or B.S. in Environmental Science or related Science field (biology, botany, etc.).
    • Experience in working with K-12 students in either a formal and/or informal educational settings.
    • Experience working with and/or managing a workforce development program.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from work sites.
    • Responsible for assessing the daily success of operations and staff effectiveness in delivering program; assessing and adjusting training of staff; assessing the effectiveness of curriculum and suggesting adjustments; solving logistics of scheduling and delivery of supplies; coordinating field trips and service projects.
    • Excellent time-management skills needed to prioritize tasks and handle multiple concurrent activities which are often associated with deadlines.
    • Goals and objectives for incumbent are set with the assistance of the Director of Youth Programs.  Incumbent functions independently to develop the means of accomplishing goals.
    • Serving hundreds of young people annually through Parks & People EE programs, incumbent plays a significant role ensuring high quality programming, smooth operations, and strong partnerships across the community. Ultimately, incumbent will a critical part of Parks & People’s vision to encourage social, economic and community development by unifying our diverse citizens and neighborhoods toward a common vision that will benefit their families for generations through green space and education.
