ELC PRACTICUM OBSERVER

Overview

Practicum Observers are responsible for overseeing and observing students in the Practicum setting.  They are responsible for supporting a positive learning experience, assessing student learning, assessing the Practicum experience, and providing support to the Early Childhood Center around learning expectations. 


Key Responsibilities


Practicum Observers are required to perform a range of duties including but not limited to:


  • Monitoring, assisting, and mentoring students in ELC placements as required.

  • Supporting and guiding students in a positive learning environment on duties and responsibilities of an ELC.

  • Monitoring students’ skills on assigned tasks while out on practicum. 

  • Completing weekly reports on students and their progress. 

  • Providing feedback and assistance to students on positive or “need to work on” statements.

  • Collaborating with the staff in completing a final evaluation on the student’s practical performance.

  • Facilitating the filling out of practicum checklists. 

  • Reviewing final evaluations with each student. 

  • Documenting in computer based program daily & record daily performance of students


QUALIFICATIONS


  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Director, Assistant Director, or in Child Care Management. 

  • ECE III certification required.

  • Teaching experience/and or possession of an Instructor’s certificate is an asset.

  • Strong creative thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to motivate and inspire students, and the ability to develop rapport with a diverse population.

  • Confident and self-managing. 

  • Efficient with strong organizational skills.

  • Dependable & punctual.

  • Approachable.

  • Adaptable and flexible (available days, evenings & weekends).

  • Multicultural sensitivity/awareness.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

  • Sound knowledge in computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint, Google Apps).
