Design Technician
As a turnkey telecommunications contractor, VTC provides field surveying, design & engineering, construction and maintenance services. We are an approved vendor for many of the major industry providers of CATV, ODAS/Small Cell and IDAS/Venue. VTC Design Group’s primary objectives are to successfully research, bid, engineer, and permit fiber optic cable placement projects throughout the US. Our fundamental tools are AutoCAD, GoogleEarth Pro, Adobe Professional, ArcGIS, Bentley Map and Microsoft Suite. Our Design Technicians use the latest versions of these and other resources to initiate jurisdictional discovery, render field notes into CAD format, engineer the proposed fiber optic path and/or antenna equipment sites and permit the appropriate jurisdiction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Interpret and render field survey notes and other data into DWG files
· Generate permit applications and manage correspondence between company, clients, and jurisdictions
· Perform research, documentation, and drafting tasks of engineering and permitting data as requested by clients or managers
· Demonstrate knowledge of standard industry symbology
· Update, maintain, operate and evaluate AutoCAD software and related equipment
· Efficiently research, trouble-shoot and provide solutions to job-related items
· Successfully implement quality control techniques/methods to one’s own production
· Perform data entry, file management, and other basic office skills
· Make occasional recommendations/suggestions for additional quality improvement and work efficiencies
· Perform all other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Knowledge for a Successful Candidate:
· Display proficiency in AutoCAD
· Have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and preferably one or more of the other resource tools previously listed
· Possess experience in this industry as outlined or the ability to quickly learn this occupation
· Willing to expand your knowledge, be challenged, and grow with the Design Group in a dynamic and upward trending environment
· Able to work full-time with occasional overtime at our Plymouth office
· Qualified to operate, access, and maintain applicable software applications
· Skilled in operating basic office equipment: computers, scanners, printers, copiers, and VOIPs
· Capable of providing high productivity and quality workmanship while remaining detail-oriented
· Adept at fully understanding and following advanced oral and written instructions
· Exercise competent judgment and initiative in executing his or her responsibilities
· Display excellent planning and organizational skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize
· Earned a high school diploma or equivalent
· Able to successfully pass a background check and a drug test
