Construction Staff Accountant
We are seeking a detail-oriented and driven Staff Accountant to support daily accounting operations and ensure financial accuracy across the organization. This role plays a critical part in managing the month-end close process, maintaining accurate financial records, and supporting timely reporting that drives informed business decisions.
This is an onsite position working closely with leadership and cross-functional teams in a fast-paced construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
Core Accounting Functions
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
- Record daily, weekly, and monthly financial transactions accurately and timely
- Export, compile, and import data into the ERP system to ensure accurate reporting
- Audit Accounts Payable invoices for accuracy, completeness, and proper job cost coding prior to posting
- Assist with preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
- Maintain compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), tax regulations, and internal policies
- Support internal and external audits
Construction & Operational Accounting
- Manage and support job costing processes to ensure accurate project financial tracking
- Monitor and analyze financial data to identify variances, trends, and opportunities for improvement
- Collaborate with operations, project managers, and leadership to resolve discrepancies and gather financial data
Inventory & Process Support
- Maintain accurate inventory records, including setup and tracking within systems
- Verify purchase orders are properly allocated
- Coordinate and support inventory cycle counts and reconciliations
Additional Responsibilities
- Support Accounts Payable and ensure timely invoice processing
- Assist with customer cash receipts and reconciliations
- Provide accurate and timely financial updates to internal stakeholders
QualificationsRequired
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
- 3+ years of accounting experience (construction industry preferred)
- Strong knowledge of job costing
- Advanced Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, data imports/exports)
- Experience with construction accounting software such as: Sage 300, Viewpoint / Spectrum, Procore or similar
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and accountability
- Ability to research and resolve issues independently and meet deadlines
Preferred
- Experience with multi-entity or joint venture accounting
- Experience with Viewpoint or Spectrum ERP systems
