The Opportunity:

Working within our Counselling and Gender Based Violence Department, the Workshop Facilitator will provide workshops for groups of participants. The Facilitator will provide ongoing support for the mental health and well-being of CGBV participants by providing psychoeducational workshops. Topics may include understanding anxiety, processing trauma, reducing stigma around accessing mental health supports, healthy mind and body connection, and guest speakers on identified and emergent topics. All counselling services and interventions are individualized for each client, with the aim of reducing barriers the client is facing and increasing capacity through a strength-based therapeutic approach. To serve the needs of our community, candidates must be able to provide service in English and Arabic or Punjabi. 

This position will support multiple programs which takes a coordinated approach to prevent and address the mental health and wellbeing of participants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Recruits’ clients by liaising with community services, agencies and training institutions to increase client referrals.
  • Assists the CGBV team in the creation of marketing and promotional materials by providing program information to the marketing team.
  • Provide psycho-educational group facilitation.
  • Creates a culturally safer and inclusive space by fostering interactions that honour the dignity of the lived/living experiences of refugee and immigrant newcomers.
  • Coordinates guest speakers on identified and emergent topics, including arranging space, days and times of presentation.
  • Builds positive respectful relationships with clients, staff, and community stakeholders to foster collaboration and community building.
  • Maintains client confidentiality in all aspects of their work.
  • Maintains related records and statistics through accurate and timely documentation and contributes towards producing quarterly and annual reports as required.
  • Conducts client surveys and assessments to capture needs and trends data that can be utilized in developing best practices.
  • Liaises with relevant government, employee assistance programs, and community agencies for program promotion.
  • Leads community outreach with a focus on hard-to-reach individuals; outreach includes, connecting with referral sources such as transitional housing programs, the surrey women’s center, and other partner agencies. Offering information sessions for interested participants within these locations and services.
  • Make referrals to other services as needed.
  • Work with the Clinical Supervisor/Manager for case consultation and review.
  •  Work cooperatively with the clinical services team.

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • Diploma in social services or related field.
  • Minimum of (2) years’ work experience in group facilitation/program coordination and/or delivery of non-profit programs to benefit immigrant communities or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Experience working with children, youth & families.
  • Verbal and written professional level fluency in English, and one other language
  • Experience with trauma-informed and attachment-focused approaches.
  • Cross-cultural training and/or experience in working in a multicultural environment.
  • Sound knowledge of community resources and ability to network and build partnerships.
  • Familiarity with outcome-based program evaluation strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience facilitating groups.
  • Skills, knowledge and sensitivity on issues related to violence against immigrant and refugee women.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and independently.
  • Class 5 BC Driver’s License and access to a vehicle (Employer pays mileage and business insurance).
  • Fluency in English and Punjabi or Arabic

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to develop and deliver lesson plans and resources appropriate for English as Second Language learners;
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and meet deadlines;

A criminal record check is required as a part of this process.
